12 candidates in the running for the Richmond job
« on: July 28, 2009, 04:39:31 PM »
Moving on from the Buckley-Malthouse circus, Chocco Royal said today there were 12 candidates in the running for the Richmond job. He didn't mention any names as he's not involved but the 12 roughly are:

Leon Cameron
Adrian Fletcher
Damien Hardwick
Ken Hinkley
Anthony Rock
Justin Leppitsch
Mark Neeld
Jade Rawlings
Alan Richardson
Brad Scott
Peter Sumich
Leigh Tudor

The 12 have got to be weeded down to six for the full-on footy interviews and then a final 3 to face the Board.

Take your pick?

Top 6:

Rawlings
Hardwick
Cameron
Hinkley
Tudor
Richardson

Laidley not considered as I think he'd rather 12 months off
Leppitsch bit stiff but still a bit raw.

Leon Cameron
Damien Hardwick
Ken Hinkley
Jade Rawlings
Alan Richardson
Peter Sumich

Final 3:

Hardwick, Hinkley, Richardson/Rawlings

Not even sure what I am basing this on other than hearsay. Presumably the board will be able to see so much more than any of us so I'm not bothered with who they choose in the end.

Ta. Wasn't sure of the 12th one. I knew it was someone from North. I'll edit the poll.

Hardwick my favourite at the moment - successful at ever club he has been at, hard nosed, tactical and I am good friends with his sister :shh

Hinkley is next cab off the rank for mine. Coached a premiership side, a major part of Geelongs development and sustained success.

Rawlings has impressed me with his honesty and the respect he gives and gets from the players. May lack in experience and tactical nouse but I think if he was surrounded by the right assistants he could become a fantastic coach.

Leppitsch is another hard nosed defender who has been a right hand man to Voss and therefore seen the steps that need to be taken when a new young coach comes to a club. Cut his teeth under Matthews and knows how to win at all cost using defense as a platform to attack.

Scott has trained under Malthouse and played for Matthews. Was reknown for his nasty streak on the ground and would take no rubbish off it. Like Leppitsch has been part of many winning cultures and knows how to create one.

Cameron based completely on what others have reported.

If there was ever a 100-1 chance to get in the finish, he is the one.
Its amazing how people on here judge people they dont know.
Anthony would interview extremely well you might find ;)

Final 6
Hardwick
Hinkley
Sumich
Rawlings
Scott
Richardson

Final 3
Hardwick
Hinkley
Sumich/Rawlings

Pretty simple reasoning for my final 3, they are assistant coaches from the last 3 premierships. Sumich was the midfield coach that developed West Coast's premiership midfield of Judd, Cousins, Kerr & Co. Hinkley is the attacking coach at Geelong, and they are the best in the competition at that. Hardwick is currently one of the midfield coaches of the Hawks who won the most recent premiership, he also has been a defensive coach. Hardwick has success follow him every club he goes to, with premierships at Essendon, Port & Hawthorn. Hardwick seems to have the best credentials of all the applicants, the only knock on him is that he hasn't coached his own side at a lower level.

Richardson
Hinkley
Scott

Richardson has been highly rated everywhere he's been.

Hinkley has the Ross Lyon factor about him. The sort of bloke that is unheralded until he wins a premiership and then everyone raves about like they knew all along.

Scott has the kind of determination and mongrel about him that Malthouse did when he first got a coaching gig.

Rawlings has Geischen written all over him. Honest bloke that is a sure bet to run onto the ground at football park if we beat the Crows
