Dustin Martin needs to be our #1 target now, if we miss out on him then I'd look at maybe Kobe Stevens (who as a bonus is a Richmond supporter). If Butcher is still there at our pick then you'd have to consider him, but hopefully we can get Griffiths with our 2nd rounder.

Martin is an elite kicking centreman who had a great U18 carnival, he just needs to slip through to us, but he's definitely a decent chance to be available.

i totally agree with this line of thinking.  Of course there are still several games to go in the season so the draft order is still up in the air but i certainly hope things fall our way and we get a top 3 pick.  either way, i agree that we'd be wise to pick up a trengove/martin/stevens 1st round and hopefully Griffiths gets to our 2nd round (if not, jake carlisle would be alright too).  i really like the look of griffiths - definitely a power forward who's got speed and agility and a big mark, the type of forward we need to complement riewoldt, morton, post and nahas.  hopefully his lack of game time this year means he falls.

Craig, we're tired of excuses. Deliver please. Results not plans or you will just become another miller and Wallace. All gab and no substance. Shoulder to the wheel. Shut the eff up.

Another 5 year plan? Stalin would be proud.

I am not sure where they think they are going to find this 195cm KPP 'monster' forward.

The draft presumably. Finishing up with picks 7, 24, 40, etc is going to make it harder to find one in this upcoming draft :-\.

If it's going to be a 5-year plan then this time anything less than a top 4 finish and genuinely challenging by 2014 would be a complete failure. By challenging I mean not a one off appearance where we get flogged in a PF a la '95 and 2001. The list should be well and truly peaking in 5 years time.

Yep , same dumb as dogs who will enjoy this week nothing win who will be slaging off at our future recuits to the point where they dont have any confindence in themselves.

Its like a dog biting its tale, I guess we are always going to be a stupid short term planning club, bit like if you stop banging your head against the wall it stops hurting.

I guess if they get me the right coach I will get the right winning attitude and become a mullinare.

Sorry in advance if I p you off, I just see ground hog day happening again and wish we had of made hard decisions in the past!

from a list-management and succession-planning viewpoint, we probably need to find a power forward. And, if we could snare another A-grade midfielder, we'd be pretty happy. We think our ruck stocks are quite good, with Tyrone Vickery and Andrew Browne coming through and Angus Graham showing significant improvement this season. Our defensive end is solid, with Luke McGuane, Kel Moore and Will Thursfield, along with young players such as Jayden Post and Alex Rance developing through there as well. Forward of centre, Matthew Richardson can't play forever. I'm certainly not retiring 'Richo', but we need to find a young power forward, who can step up when the Tiger great does eventually hang the boots up. And, you can never have enough A-grade midfielders, so that also will be high on our list of recruiting priorities.
It's interesting revisiting this one year on.....

At the time the Club was still expecting or at least hoping Richo would play one more year in 2010. So the search for a key forward turned out to be more urgent. Jack has filled the breach as far as a lone key forward target in 2010 while Griffiths was drafted as part of the above plan and is a key to our future forward structure.

Dusty Martin looks to be the future A-grade midfielder we were after in last year's draft. We still a few more as our depth is poor.

Post and Rance haven't come on yet as hoped as defenders while Astbury has surprised. We still rely on at least two of McGuane, Thursty and Moore in the key defensive posts.
