Nup it's free.  I have hunted through the privacy policy and t&cs and it doesn't cost anything but the privacy policy certainly feel like I'll be hassled by people other than "Jade" by signing up to it.

Understand your frustration 2JD, I had a similar feeling about every damn thread turning into another chapter of Tigermonk's autobiography, I rarely get involved in slanging, but nearly every post by TM is about himself. That is what friends are for.
