I'll honestly put my hand up and say that pre 2009 I'd put my clothes on the line that Newman would be our next captain and be a superb leader.

I'm now on the fence. I'm a Newman fan and it makes me a bit ill when I think about it. Can't imagine what the Newman Negatives would think..

Seeing as we've given that many face lifts to the club over the past years would it be a disaster taking off his captaincy of would it be a disaster keeping him leading the group after such a horrible year.

I'm willing to have an opinion on anything but this one I think I stay on the fence. I have no idea. Maybe trade Newman, Tuck and show anyone over 25 the door and give the captaincy to Brett. Maybe? Or even Richie? Ge the media would have a field day.

We are down on confidence but the leadership really does seem to falling on deaf ears.

You have to give something of value to get anything of value in return and Newman would be one of them

I actually like Newman as a player too, I was happy with his selection as captain also. I just think he'd gain us something at the trade table and not miss him that much from a team structure point of view. He's too old to be part of our success and he's a beautiful kick so won't be ruled out by most clubs. We'd miss a fit Foley much more than we would Newman.

has had an ordinary year newy, how many times has he featured in best players, 2 or 3 perhaps...performed much better last yr....with a new coach, I wouldnt bet on him surviving as skipper

Last year after the Melbourne Round 22 game I mentioned that he should be traded to get a first round draft pick and on the back of 8 wins in the second half of the year was hounded down with the excuses that he was 26 and in the age group of what we were lacking 23-28 yr olds.

Should be traded this year whilst he has value. Would be great off half back at a club like who wants to top up their list for a tilt at a flag. Why? He won't have "leadership issues" burdening him. He'll be able to focus solely on footy.

When blokes who should not be captain are given the job it's a poor reflection of where the club is at. He had Johnson preceding him.

Give captaincy to Richo for a year or give it to Lids. Newman shows no on field leadership and has no prescence on the field. It's like hitting someone with wet newspaper. Him being put up for trade in my opinion has nothing to do with his leadership deficiencies its just an observation I have made and a means to an end for the future of the RFC post season 2009.

only thing is Richmond are so dumb they cant see this hence our skills & work-rate

Not saying it's the only reason but one reason is that because we are an 'affiliate' club with Coburg then we can usually only have 12 (I think it is) players from our senior list in the team. It's the main 'pro' for having a Richmond VFL side.

yes true Smokey but Richmond should be looking after injured players resting then & playing the listed players in the Senior Coburg side only
VFL reseves level should be focused on playing only Coburg players otherwise when our affiliation is over Coburg will collapse & the focus of joining with them to help them survive will arise again.
