Can confirm this.
Ken Hinkley has told Brian Cook at Geelong  yesterday that RFC is going to offer the position to Hardwick.
Its up to Hardwick to accept the position it seems.
Bump, will be offered on Wednesday

Tigers decide, but stay mum on who will coach
Caroline Wilson | August 25, 2009

RICHMOND will today appoint a new senior coach for the next three years with Damien Hardwick and Ken Hinkley last night waiting to learn of their coaching fates.

Both men made their final presentations to the Tigers' board two days ago immediately before club president Gary March's departure to New Zealand on business.

Hardwick, who was also interviewed last week by Port Adelaide with a view to taking over as senior coach at in 2012, is expected to vacate his role at Hawthorn almost immediately should he win the job whether or not the Hawks make the finals. Geelong has indicated it wants to retain Hinkley until its 2009 campaign has been completed.

Hinkley, a former Cat who began his coaching career under Malcolm Blight at St Kilda, made his case to the board first with Hardwick following shortly afterwards. The prevailing view last night was that the club had virtually reached its decision, but was refusing to make it public until both men had been told.

The Tigers' new CEO, Brendon Gale, who observed the two presentations, officially began his duties at Tigerland yesterday while the majority of the Richmond staff went to Kyabram for the funeral of Kayne Pettifer's father.

While Hinkley did not apply for the North Melbourne coaching job, Hardwick was briefly interviewed by the Roos which later appointed former Brisbane premiership player Brad Scott.

Despite ongoing tension and suggestions of instability at Port Adelaide, which reappointed coach Mark Williams for two years last month, the Richmond coaching position remains the last to be filled.

With a number of delistings, retirements and potential trades looming for the struggling club, both Hinkley and Hardwick made strong cases for the job making its clear the Tigers were headed for a significant rebuild before they had any hope of success.

Gary March was unavailable for comment last night.

Richmond Tigers may have coach tomorrow (Herald-Sun)

Richmond Tigers may have coach tomorrow
Jon Ralph | August 25, 2009

RICHMOND is expected to reveal its new coach tomorrow, after the coaching subcommittee met on Sunday to consider candidates Ken Hinkley and Damien Hardwick.

It is believed neither has yet been informed of their fate, with midweek looming as the most likely date for the announcement.

Many of the club's executive and football department travelled to country Victoria yesterday for the funeral of forward Kayne Pettifer's father, Mick.

Richmond president Gary March is on business in New Zealand, but will return in time for the announcement, which is likely tomorrow morning.

The Tigers told caretaker coach Jade Rawlings and Essendon assistant Alan Richardson on Friday they had been cut from the four-man shortlist.

That allowed Hinkley and Hardwick one final meeting with Richmond over the weekend before a final decision was made.

Hinkley shortened to $1.17 with bookmakers midway through last week, but Hardwick is also being strongly considered.

History has shown the final interview has a massive bearing, with Hardwick beaten by Matthew Knights two years ago after a poor final interview in front of the Essendon board.

yep and whoever says "SNAP" gets the job

Actually the highlight of this whole process as it draws to a close is the fact the media haven't got a clue .... they are guessing and so for that i say well done RFC

Can I just add that my preference is for whoever gets the job they should leave the current club immediately, no ifs, buts or maybes. Our season fininshes on Friday, they are required at their new office next Monday IMHO

Might be because of the Port Adelaide factor. ;)

Schwarz said he spoke to Nigel Lappin who's an assistant at Geelong and Lappin said Hinkley is the best person he's ever worked with.
