Rawlings out of the running
« on: August 21, 2009, 05:32:39 PM »
Jade's manager Liam Pickering was asked by a caller just now whether Jade will stay at Richmond now he hasn't got the job. Pickering didn't dispute that Jade missed out and said he'll sit down with Jade and discuss what he wants to do. Pickering said it'll depend on the new coach. Rawlings loves the club and probably wouldn't have a problem being second banana but it may be better for him to move elsewhere. The experience as caretaker will hold him in good stead for the future.

After the last 3 weeks, he has come a distant last.

job too big for him and his softness.

Currently a member of the Roupies, and employed by the great man Roup.

I feel sorry for jade.he inherited a team that was torn appart by what had happened the previous month. There wasnt much he could in such a short time.
How could he introduce new structures and game plans in the middle of the season, all he could do was man the helm ,and thats what he did

The clubs been struggling for longer than a month.

I think the last few weeks have shown how deep the problem runs. Jade has < 2 years coaching experience. Getting someone who has seen a club rebuilt might just be better for us.

Look, taking on that job mid season as a caretaker coach and hoping to influence the decision makers to giving you the Job full time, is like diving on a live grenade and hoping to survive the blast, he was a dead man walking.

Jade needs an apprenticeship. Would be good to see him get himself under a good coach and learn the ropes, he was about 5 years to early for the gig,

he could be anything as coach however lacks the depth of experience to take the reigns FT...needs a stint at a successful club and he may just be cherry ripe in a few years for us to bring back in a succession plan after we've won a couple of flags :shh

I have to say it was poor form on Pickering's part

Any announcement should come from the club not Liam Pickering

I don't understand the insults and vitriol directed at Jade over his caretaker role. No one could have done any better, you can't turn around the list in such a short period of time. Others have had 5 years and done less than he has in 10 weeks.
I'd be happy for him to remain at the club, either as coach of Coburg or as a match day assistant (or both).

A little respect would be nice for a change, He may not be the man to take over, but he shows passion for the club and he at least he had a go. His honesty and youthful exuberance was refreshing to see from an AFL senior coach.

Malthouse on Rawlings in today's Weekend Australian....

Jade Rawlings did not enhance his prospects with the way Richmond lost to Collingwood last weekend. I know that one game does not make a season but in coaching, the buck stops with you.

You can blame the past, you can blame the culture, you can blame all sorts of things, but the simple fact is, regardless of whether you are temporary or a full-time coach, you are responsible for the side's performances.

Jade now has two games to demonstrate he can take full control of his side and have them play the sort of football he wants them to play. The team has to perform in a competitive, disciplined manner, and then his hat will be back in the ring.

The Tigers now have the upper hand on any decision because all the other jobs are taken. They can sit and wait until they believe they have the right prospect. There is no need to panic or rush, they can wait until the end of the finals if they wish.

Your comments prove about your knowledge of the games.
You havent been watching the kicks ins to contests for the last 3 weeks.
You havent watched the pathetic efforts by our ruckman at stopages , especially in D 50-repeatedly hitting the ball the opposite way that they should.(Thus Simmons is back this week )
You havent watched players running to the interchange at stoppages leaving as one short on the ground.
this is suburban footy stuff I am afraid.
And very rarely do we try and spread at stoppages ( Apart from Lids and Cuz )
This is basic football stuff, dont blame the players , its a coaching thing.
Would think the Malthouse article is 100% on the money, although Jades future is now determined by his own lack of ability

Must admit  i have noticed the seeming interchange indecision as well...i havent been able to figure it out and just thought it was another way of conveying a message to the players....But did think it was strange and didnt look good .
