Who is worth a 1st, 2nd, 3rd or 4th round pick?

Supporters always over rate their teams list - me included, but when it comes down to cut throat trade week where every club wants something for nothing what would our players actually be worth if they were traded.

Trying to take my Tigers rose coloured glasses off for one minute here is what I believe they could be worth -

Early First Round
 Deledio, Cotchin,

Late First Round
Riewoldt and Vickery could secure us a 1st round picks mainly because they play in roles that are hard to find quality players to fill.

Early Second Round
Tambling and Foley


Late Second Round
Cousins, McGuane, Newman, Morton, Moore, Tuck and Post


Third Round 
Thursfield, Polo, Graham, Raines, Nahas, McMahon and Jackson


Fourth Round 
Schulz, Putt, Hughes, White, Brown, Connors, Edwards and Browne


No trade value 
JON, Cogs, Petts, Hislop, Thomson, Gourdis, Gilligan, Simmonds and even the big Richo. Thomson, Hislop, Gilligan and Richo may still have value to us for differing reasons but not to another team.


Have I missed anyone? What's you thoughts?

I reckon Riewoldt might get an early first rounder.

A 20 year old KPP who has kicked near 40 goals for the year would be hot property.

I bet if Bulldog fans did something like this 2 years ago, McMahon would have come under Fourth Round, or No Trade Value

The reality that we swapped him for pick 19 and now is worth next to nothing is the sad part.

In fact when you compare how many players that now exceed their initial picks and have gone up in worth compared to those who have gone down it would be interesting to see if we come out on top...

remember the whispers of Mcmahon being traded surfaced when the saints were hot to trot and unbeaten.

I wonder if they still think they need a Mclovin to compliment their list now.

Yep, I almost put him up there in importance to our future as Lids and Cotch.

Imagine if he was in a good side getting decent supply.

Andy Collins...3rd round pick ?

I'm probably being biased, but i'd go a 2nd rounder.

I read that Gary March was surprised how highly the coaching candidates rated Andrew Collins.

Andrew Collins a 2nd rounder. I like the kid and believe he has a huge upside but does he compare with Tambling, Foley, McGuane, Newman , Morton and co? I don't know. Perhaps in terms of potential.

I agree with you daniel in terms of McMahon's worth to us but other clubs seem to rate him. The same can be said about Raines given his profile in the media etc.

Chuck - I think you are right about Polly and Rance though Rance maybe more valued given he is a KPP and still developing.

Hard players to value are those that are developing and potentially have a lot of upside or were high draft picks but haven't come yet. Should you rate them at their potential best, worst or somewhere in the middle? Players like Vickery, Post, Connors, Collins and even Hislop, Graham and Hughes all fall into this category.

Trading Lids ,Cotchin,Riewoldt,Vickery,Tambling and Foley for early draft picks is just " Robbing Peter to pay Paul" IMO.

If a team was after a key forward, do they take a risk on a yougster or if he was available would they go for Riewoldt.

Beau Dowler [6] - fail so far, not sure he'll live up to his high pick

Scott Gumbleton [2] - fail (but has had bad run with injury)
Lachlan Hansen [3] - looking reasonable, not sure he is worth a pick 3 though
Mitch Thorp [6] - fail
Ben Reid [8] - fail
James Sellar [14] - fail

2007
Jarrad Grant [6] - fail (still early though)

There is always a risk with any type of player, but there is a lot of KPF fails above.

I have looked at this thread a couple of times and i dont understand how any of these suggestions are constructive. I can only guess it is a mythical hypothetical pointless debate... the players suggested for first & second round draft pics are not going any where and are surely indespensable in terms of our future. After the second round the draft becomes very "hit and miss" and is more dependant on a clubs ability to develop a player into a "hit". I agree a mass cleanout needs to occur but the players that need to go arent worth draft picks of any value and giving up players like Collins and Rance for a third round selection seems absurd to me.
The philosophy should not be who do we get to make us better, but how we make the people we have best they can be. This culture of individualising our problems is what seperates us from the great clubs.
