He'd need at least one full season of playing good footy in the ones with no off-field crap before he's of any trade value and if that happens we probably wouldn't trade him anyway.... :shh

Sydney Stack returned to Punt Road early in the week after his $6000 COVID fine in Perth but by his own admission is only 25 per cent fit to play AFL.

He is eligible to play AFL after Round 5 but clearly will need longer to reach match fitness.

“He has just been jogging and running laps and doing boxing with the boxing coach and doing extra training. It’s going to be a pretty tough month or two training-wise. We got flogged in January and February and he is coming now but he’s kept his head down, and I am looking forward to talking to him and getting to know him again,” Vlastuin said.

“He has been through a fair bit and not many 20-year-olds would be in prison over New Years like that, so it’s a hell of a story. Just with his upbringing, I can’t understand the things he has had to go through so it will be good to put my arms around him.”

Balme also provided an update on Sydney Stack ...

“It’s really lovely to see ‘Stacky’,” Balme said.

“We all know that he’s had his challenges, but we all know that, deep down, he’s a really talented player.

“Let’s hope we can give him some opportunities.

“He needs to do a bit of work on his fitness, obviously, but I don’t think he will be that far off playing.”

2019 form Stack would be a good in for our team right about now.

Yep. Forward line for me. Stuff off Aarts and Rioli.

Play George, Stack and MRJ.

Stack’s on: Tiger poised to play in VFL this week

Sydney Stack is poised to make his long-awaited return to competitive football this week with the Richmond defender set to line up in the Tigers’ VFL opener against Sandringham at Punt Road on Friday.

Stack hasn’t played since being suspended early last September for breaches of the AFL’s hub protocols. Both Stack and teammate Callum Coleman-Jones were sent home and banned for 10 matches following their infamous night out on the Gold Coast, but those suspensions have been served and both are eligible to play in the VFL or AFL this week.

Sydney Stack will play some “limited” game time in the VFL after what has been a horror period for the youngster.

Stack has served his 10-game ban for his breach of COVID-19 protocols last year, but he also spent Christmas behind bars in Perth after breaking that state’s COVID-19 restrictions.

Hardwick said it was great to have him back and playing football.

“He’s settled in well. It’s been a pretty traumatic experience for a 20-year-old. We sit there and judge people pretty quickly on what they are but it’s more important what he’s going to do moving forward,” Hardwick said.

“We’re really excited about what he can become. He can play the game. What we’re looking for from Sydney is to get the consistency in his life that allows him to play the game at the very highest level. Ability is no question, he’s got it.”

Gale confirmed troubled youngster Sydney Stack is in good shape ahead of a return to VFL football tomorrow.

The 20-year-old spent almost three weeks, including the Christmas period, behind bars after being caught in Northbridge during his compulsory self-isolation period in Western Australia in December.

“He came back a few weeks ago,” he told 3AW Football.

“We work really hard to create an environment where Sydney can be valued and be as good as he can be.

“We are hopeful he can get back to where he was a couple of years ago.”

Stack’s back for Richmond in a promising VFL return

Peter Ryan

Richmond’s Sydney Stack made a solid return for the Tigers in his first match for the club since he and teammate Callum Coleman-Jones were sent home from the Gold Coast in September for breaching the AFL’s COVID-19 protocols when they became involved in a late-night altercation in Surfers Paradise.

The 20-year-old was mobbed by teammates when he kicked a goal in the third quarter after he received a pass from Coleman-Jones.

Stack started on the bench but entered at the six-minute mark of the first quarter, playing as a deep forward. He looked in good shape as he played about 15 minutes each quarter, attacking the ball in his customary direct fashion.

Interesting that Benny wanted the 2019 version of Stacky back too. (not the 2020 version who was gifted games)

Stack should not get a game this year, internal club discipline should not see him rewarded while others have toiled and done the right thing and he should not get a game in front of them.

If his form warrants it and the coaches/leadership group are satisfied that he’s putting in the effort required to be an AFL footballer and represent the RFC then he absolutely should.

Stack has been punished by the AFL and the WA courts and he has served those punishments.
