newy won the B&F has he? If you are referring to sugar then you are pathetic. I think you just cannot give credit where it is due. How any keyboard knucklehead can disrespect any AFL player is beyond me. You would think its handed to all of the players  on a plate the way some so called RFC supporters carry on.

i give credit where its due and sugar has been the worst captain to ever lead our football club.

Never gave his heart and soul like all our other captains did. Campo was so far ahead of him its not even worth discussing with a fool like yourself.

ow many games did he win off his bat. Ooh thats SFA. peeing on cop stations, real captain material that was.

he is poo face facts

You wouldn't know a fact if it jumped up and bit you on your rump.  Winning a game off your own boot the sole criteria to judge a captain by is it?

Tom Harley is a premiership captain of one of the best modern day clubs going around - total of 12 Brownlow votes over his 11 year career so far, 1 x 3 vote game - 21 disposals v Bulldogs in a 10 goal win last season.  Yep, real matchwinner off his own boot that man.  Or how about Stuart Maxfield - another recent premiership captain of a very good modern side - total of 35 Brownlow votes in a 16 year career - 3 x 3 vote games, the latest being in season 1999, 4 years before he became captain.  Another standout matchwinner.

There is so much more to being a successful and influential captain but you have proved many times in the past that explaining it to you is a waste of time.

proved my point exactly, thank you

comparing him to Harley is a joke. Uum Tom has won a flag hasn't he and your beloved sugar missed 2 goals 20 metres out that would have sent us into the finals in 2008.

great captain material that was.

lets consider him against campo, Flea and knighter shall we
actually lets not im done comparing Sugar to anyone.

He has been the worst captain i have seen at Punt Road and he is up there with Vanderburg IMO

Joel Selwood is ahead of Deledio

Bollocks.

If Lids had played in Geelong side last 2 years he would have kicked 80 goals and averaged 30 touches

could woulda shoulda

thats a really lame argument but i expect nothing less of you

lids has not got 2 flags next to his name and has not performed in a finals series the way Selwood done so yeah Robert Shaw is 100% Correct

Move on from the 70's and 80's! Football is a business and like any other business the best player/ best worker doesnt neccasarily get to lead a team or business. It is all about leadership and you're people skills, no point putting a player who can win the game off his own boot in as captain if he can't lead men or speak/communicate to others. The days of the best footballer automatically becoming captain are gone.

i agree about the best player not needing to be captain but come on mate i at least want confidence in my captain to lead my example.

I haver no doubt his lack of leadership was a part of our demise in the last 4 years

What is this beloved sugar rubbish, it has nothing to do with whether I like sugar or not , it is your incessant denigration of players from RFC that I despise. Incidently was it lids fault we haven't played finals and conversely it must be completely Selwoods football that got Geelong into the finals. dunnyelle  again you seem to know nothing about footy and worse than that do not give respect to the players of the team you supposedly support. Show some guts support your players

I haver no doubt his lack of leadership was a part of our demise in the last 4 years

Our poor performance in the mid 2000's started because of our drafting from 2000 - 2003.

We could have had the most brilliant on field captain and it would have made marginal difference to our results IMO as our list was shot.

Our list and players was the main reason you are right there but his leadership didn't help.

Lids went to Richmond cause we came last - cause we were shyte

Deledio has played with midfeild of - Tivendale, Johnson, Krakouer

Selwood has had - Ablett, Corey, Ling etc.

going by robert shaws evauluation of playing ability bobby skilton wasnt a premier midfielder either. He didnt play finals .

Silly comment to be honest and confirmation that shaw is out of touch.

Selwood is a superstar, but I would think that most afl clubs given a choice would opt for deledio ahead of him, he just has so many weapons and so much flexibility.

Just MHO of course

Skilton has 3 Brownlow medals to prove it though blaisee  ;). He played in a different era too where players played on a single opponent for a full game. In the modern era with all the midfield rotations and cheap possessions it is very difficult for a non-finalist to win the Brownlow no matter how much of a champion he is. Off the top of my head Crawford a decade ago was the last one. Richo would been the first since if he had been able to score another BOG. These days we do judge who are the best footballers on those who consistently can deliver in the big games or at least can win games off their own boot. Lids is still of course only 21 and super talented and versatile so hopefully he will turn out to be that player for us (as well as other Tigers like Cotchin and Cousins  :pray ). However so far he has been very good while not yet being in the Judd, Ablett or Hodge class.
