Richmond forced to deny Cousins retirement rumours
STAFF REPORTER
April 23, 2010 - 1:39PM

Richmond has again been forced to pour cold water on rumours that AFL veteran Ben Cousins is retiring.

In response to a series of talkback calls on radio, a Richmond media spokeswoman said there wasn't a shred of truth in the speculation.

"I wouldn't even comment on it," the spokeswoman said today.

Cousins, 31, returns to the Richmond senior line-up this weekend for the daunting away match against Fremantle at Subiaco on Saturday night.

The recovering drug addict was one of four Richmond players suspended for player misbehaviour after the round-three loss to the Sydney Swans.

Club telling porkies again.
he didnt have a knee injury in round 2, we all know that.
and yes, he wanted to give it away after round 1..
Club gave him a week off to think about it.

Richmond last night confirmed Cousins had been suspended from Round 4 because he gave a prescription sleeping tablet to teammate Luke McGuane.

The Tigers had stated Cousins, McGuane and Dean Polo were suspended for a week and Daniel Connors for eight weeks over a late-night drinking session after the side’s loss to the Swans in Round 3.

But it emerged Richmond acted against Cousins because he gave McGuane Temazepam, which is used to help treat insomnia.

Tigers officials were alerted when McGuane failed to show at the team’s recovery session the next morning, such was the effect of the tablet.

If this is the real reason the club suspended him, then it's hardly a beat up but I am surprised that we're getting it second thad through the journos article.
Who confirmed it from the club as source is not named here?

Very foolish of Cousins to be sharing prescribed medicines with other players.
Add this to punching Connors and it's not hard to see why he's been suspended.

Its seems that the RFC cant get there stories right ::)
This isnt what Hardwick said at the press conference at Punt Road after the weekend in Sydney.
More along the lines that"" Cousins should of acted earlier in regards to Connors ""were the exact words.
There is way too many lies out of Punt Rd this year :banghead :banghead :banghead

I can understand, given Cousins history and the recent persecution by the media as to why that did not get out initially. It is not that relevant but gives though with an agenda plenty of ammo. Some things need to be kept in house.

There would be plenty that happens at other clubs that does not see the light of day in the press, it's called damage control.

The problem is that is at least one person at the club who is a low life rat fink. Someone putting their own pathetic need to feel important above the good of the club and the sooner they are weeded out, named publicly and ostracised the better. It makes me sick that there is someone either in the employment of the club or someone closely associated with the club who calls themselves a supporter, who has an agenda of their own that conflicts with what the club is trying to achieve.

It's the same old problem that a small element of pure scum is doing their best to cause disharmony and if they were hit by a car I would not feel one iota of sorrow for them.

Perhaps a collection should be organised to hire a PI to find the maggot

Perhaps the coach originally said what they wanted the outside world to know, but three days later due to some ars.ewipe telling someone in the media otherwise, the club were backed into a corner where they had to come clean.

Besides, I don't think Hardwick lied, just didn't tell the whole story. Big difference.

Do you know who the filthy turd trying to undermine the club is Jack?

Mate, the club dont tell the truth, only tell you what the want you to hear.
Also, Cousins DIDNT have a knee issue in Round 2.
If you want to know whats really happening at Punt Road, buy the Age, its more accurate..
People bag Caro, but she is more right than wrong

All organisations, including sporting clubs only tell us what they want us to hear.
Most of us can live that that, as there is normally a good reason for it.
If cousins didnt have a knee injury, stiff poo. If newman didn't have a hammy stiff poo.

Caro may be right with her inside knowledge.

This I see this as a problem.

Her source needs to be eliminated.

Again, I ask, do you know who the filthy turd trying to undermine the club by leaking this info is?
