* April 23, 2010 1:36PMA BETTING agency has suspended betting on the AFL's wooden spoon as the fallout from the Melbourne Storm continues.
Several punters placed bets on St Kilda to finish last in 2010 with Sportsbet before betting was suspended, with odds ranging from $5001 to $1001.
... a speculative punter is trying to lay St Kilda at $4 on Betfair to win this year’s AFL wooden spoon.
The punter is prepared to lose $300 trying to lure a fellow punter into backing the unbeaten Saints.
St Kilda was $1000-1 before the Melbourne Storm salary cap rort was exposed yesterday. The link with Storm’s former CEO Brian Waldron who was previously CEO at St Kilda caused the market change.
Betfair’s Hugh Taggart pointed out only $74 had been bet on St Kilda to win the wooden spoon at a lowest price of $80.
“We will continue to monitor the market but nothing suspicious has happened at this stage,’’ he said.
St Kilda reiterated this morning that it had complied with all AFL audits.
