Agreed. His ability to evade means that 2 or 3 opponents usually try to tackle him. This frees up the classier HBF's. You need to look at the team as a whole Daniel.

He was ordinary earlier in the season, but his last few weeks were constructive.

Can be very creative with his hands in traffic and provides good drive through the middle. i think he is starting to understand that he should look to offload to a classier teammate before kicking it himself.
I think he can offer something in the future if he can iron out his clangers.

You obviously missed his 6 scoring assists in the Fremantle game before he was injured.
Was running into some excellent form but go ahead and be blinded by your misconceptions. 8)

Deserves to come straight back in, I think we need his evasive and creative type against a team like Sydney
Only thing I worry about is after 3 weeks off I hope he won't revert to his Round 1-4 kicking skill

no misconceptions at all. hes a very  average player who manages to play the odd good game. the misconception is people actually putting him on a pedestal after the odd good game.

8 games this yr. Broke his jaw early in one so that doesnt count. Was below standard ranging thru decent in 5 other games, and yes he had a couple of good games back to back.
To me those so called good games are where he should be at all the time, they are average games for a mid and the least we should expect.yet because of those two games hes suddenly a good player.i suppose you will tell me hes had a good yr next.
i would have thought for a player his type 20 plus possesions a must, bloody hell poor mids get that many nowdays with their eyes closed. a running outside mid should be really good by foot and nowdays defensive pressure no matter the size of the player is king.
He does not get enough of the ball never has apart from the odd game,  most certainly for a skinny outside mid who gets plenty of game time.
He still makes poor decisions and he still butchers the ball far too often by foot. his tackling is ineffectual and his pace is average. to top it off has kicked just 2 goals for the season.
All this from a 22 yr old  5th yr 70 odd game player you bet ya life im critical of him and with damn good reason. i will say this with utter confidence hes at the best an average player and his performances in the main have been below standard. if he had not had a reasonable season last yr, yes reasonable it was just passable he would be gone.

last year's standard was that minimum required performance you are talking about the claw
he has fallen below that this year instead of building on it which puts him back behind the eight ball as an average mid instead of a good one
i actually see him as more inside than outside despite his frame, maybe a bit of an in-between mid
he was one of our biggest contested ball winners last yr, an area that we are down on this yr, coinciding with his poor form
he's got to lift, i'm one that leans towards him making it because of his work ethic on & off, but he's still on the borderline

You do recognise he won our most improved player award last year?
You do also recognise he had an interrupted pre season after significant off season surgery?

I can tell you claw that Edwards is highly rated by Dimma. HIGHLY.
The coaching staff honestly believe that he can make the transition to become an elite player.
Now you may laugh but that's how highly rated he is by those that are watching our list a lot closer than you or I.

He had a terrible start to the season no doubt but whilst many wrote him off, just perhaps those that know more than us nuffies on the net stuck by him and he started to come good. Have a look at the trend in his form claw. Shane was on the improve significantly before his injury. It's indisputable.

I really rate Edwards. Always have.
Odd grubber aside you can just see that this kid oozes football talent and I for one share Hardwick's belief that he is a potential premiership mid.
I will go so far to say Edwards has more talent in some areas of his game than any other other player on our list. You need to keep developing someone like that and I think they are doing a fine job with him.

I'll back him in to become a very good player and will happily bow to your superior judgement if I am wrong. 8)

I reckon Edwards could turn out to be similar to his namesake in Tyson

theres nothing superior about my judgement im just commenting on what ive seen to date. i also believe for a small but at 22 while there is no doubt some improvment left in him i dont think there will be a lot.also i would never think he can be elite  just not a good enough kick for that to happen. hes very good with his hands and hes very elusive  but these things imo are offset by weaknesses.and the weaknesses out number the strengths atm.

finally i will gladly take very good player but as i said im inclined to think average at best. heres hoping you are right  and those at the club.
