Rough ride par for the course

Respected SEN football commentator, Shane Wakelin, has put Richmond’s 103-point loss to Carlton in last Saturday’s Round 15 clash at the MCG into perspective.

Wakelin, who played a combined total of 252 AFL games for St Kilda and then Collingwood, in a career spanning 15 seasons, believes the Tigers’ performance is symptomatic of the competition’s developing young teams.

“I look through some of the quality characters (Damien) Hardwick has developed under his tutelage, who consistently put in a lot of effort.  And, I’m talking about guys like Foley, Jackson, young Martin, Deledio, Cotchin, and young Grigg, who’s come across from Carlton . . . very, very good, quality individuals, who consistently put their head over the footy.  I think that was the most disappointing thing for Damien Hardwick (last Saturday),” said the dual Collingwood Grand Final defender.

“He knows the character of these young kids, they’ve given him the effort consistently over arguably the last 18 months, and this is just a short-term blemish.  They’ll get on with it this week . . .

“A lot of the time we expect this smooth improvement from a lot of sides.  But we’ve seen Melbourne get into a little bit of a rut, we’ve seen Essendon over the past five weeks really struggle, and now we’ve seen Richmond get blown away.

“I think within the evolution, or the development of any potential top-four side - look at Geelong back in 2006 - they always have that season, or a period of time, where they’ll totally reverse their form and intensity and we think, gee, they’ve gone backwards.  But then, over the course of the next six to eight weeks, they really find that consistency and level of intensity.”

Memo to the rfc marketing team- take the week off, in fact take a few, your services have been rendered useless for a little while.

I am sick of this rough ride, par of the course crap......if I want a rough ride I will slap the missus on the arse and yell out another womans name while we are doing the business.

Get your poo together Richmond, turn the list over to the tune of about 12 make sure the players coming in are no less than 6ft tall and 85-95 kg.

Doesn't Grigg live a couple of doors down from McGuane, and they've become quite matey? Says it all really.

The one thing that pains me the most, the bit that really hurts more than anything else, is that the players wore a guernsey on Saturday that respected all the people who have sacrificed to donate significant amounts to the FTF, and the players treated it with disrespect, vis-a-vis their effort and intensity at the contest.

Thanks team, if that's what that guernsey really meant to you.

Respected SEN football commentator, Shane Wakelin,

By whom?

His mates on public transport?

Is he the one that Martin Pike rang the Herald Sun to tell them he sleeps in a bunk bed with the lights on?
Who isn't a fan of the thinking man's orange Tim Fleming?

Gerks 27/6/11

But you see, it's not me, it's not my family.
In your head, in your head they are fighting,
With their tanks and their bombs,
And their bombs and their guns.
In your head, in your head, they are crying...

X 4 pick another game to get smashed in.

Why does this logic not appear to impact the Eagles?
“I find it nearly impossible to make those judgments, but he is certainly up there with the really important ones, he is certainly up there with the Francis Bourkes and the Royce Harts and the Kevin Bartlett and the Kevin Sheedys, there is no doubt about that,” Balme said.
