Positives / Negatives vs Essendon
« on: July 09, 2011, 10:40:59 PM »
Just wanna reel off some of these:

Positives:
- Helbig played his best game for the club
- Batchelor was good
- Grigg showed some grunt and worked hard, although missed crucial shots
- Vickery showed even around the ground he can play
- Ben Griffiths killed Fletcher one on one.

Negatives:
- Jack beaten again, clubs know how to play him and how to match up.
- Deledio was well down.
- Jackson continues to be absolute poo.
- Edwards, tried hard but just can't kick
- Newmans turnover to Monfries
- Houli's brain fade before 3 qtr time
- Nahas well held
- Martin quietish
Go Tigers!

King is all effort, no ability.

Nahas is a player that goes ok when teams forget him but then has 6 poor weeks until that happens again.

I thought Post showed a few signs that he has great potential.

I also thought Thursfield played a good game.

Helbig and Griff.

Cotch needs to be made captain next season.

Unfortunately our midfield failed again when we needed them to stand up. This happens to often.

Griff big plus, was moving like a midfielder...very impressive big fella, and Helbig came good tonight for sure, as I said in another post this is  about his 9th game so he deserves his chance.
We shot our wad early blowing a lot of energy dominating without putting the score on the board.  Bulk of scores were from opportunistic situations really, Jack was well held by multiple opponents, literally held, cut off, boxed in blocked from running etc our forward structure seems to have disintigrated and gone backwards.  Disagree about King TBR, he is one player out of that lot that I would have in next week without pausing for thought.

Positives: The first 2.5 quarters. Including the fight  ;D Our tackling was good, and the effort was clearly there. Griffiths and Helbig were also quite good.

Negatives: Everything from the second half of the 3rd quarter onwards. All that was good about the first 2.5 quarters was turned on its head the minute the spoilt brats got a sniff. We panicked and made some stupid errors (Houli's brainfade perhaps the worst), characteristic of the last how-ever-many-years. Then there's our kicking for goal  :banghead

So would I at this point, Hooter, but I still think he is not the future as a defensive forward.

Just doesn't have the skill or the finish (outside of 3m), but I admire his heart.

he's actuallya good kick, kingy ( although he shanked one or two tonight). it's his brain that lets him down which is why he cant play anywhere but forward.

bigger problems than king that need addressing

Fair call but I'll substitute average for good.

There are bigger problems right at the minute but he is 35 years old and isn't the future.

This is true but we ask so much of Cotchin and Martin every week. Combined have played less than 70 games.

Where was Lids??

I agree. Would rather have King in the side than some so called better perceived players.
Really liked Helbig's game.
Griff and Post worked hard.
Cotch I thought worked himself into the game also very well to be one of our best on the night.
I allegedly saw a right hook from someone who wears a famous jumper at the club too.
I think the kids will be okay. We have something to look forward to as they get more games into them.
Forget the consecutive goals the Bombers kicked (even though it is hard to) I thought the kids we had out there did a serviceable job and if anything those who many have hounded to be delisted or traded will be well and truly on the chopping block after the evidence that was presented tonight.
