Richmond vs Fremantle - Round 5, 2013
« on: April 24, 2013, 04:45:46 PM »
Preview: Dockers v Tigers
By Alex Malcolm
afl.com.au
10:40pm April 22, 13

SUMMARY:
Both sides come off defeats and six-day breaks. Richmond had its bubble burst by Collingwood and a rampaging Travis Cloke. Fremantle went to Tasmania without its three most experienced players and gave Hawthorn a five-goal start and never recovered. If Collingwood was a test of Richmond's legitimacy, Fremantle at home will give it a real gauge on where they stand. Fremantle's loss to Essendon will really haunt it if Richmond take the four points from this match. Luke McPharlin will definitely return for the Dockers.

WHERE AND WHEN: Patersons Stadium, Friday April 26, at 6.45pm WST

LAST FIVE TIMES
Rd 21, 2012, Fremantle 13.16 (94) d Richmond 11.6 (72) at Patersons Stadium
Rd 11, 2012, Fremantle 12.6 (78) d Richmond 9.12 (66) at the MCG
Rd 7, 2011, Richmond 23.10 (148) d Fremantle 14.15 (99) at the MCG
Rd 15, 2010, Richmond 15.10 (100) d Fremantle 11.15 (81) at Etihad Stadium
Rd 5, 2010, Fremantle 15.22 (112) d Richmond 11.7 (73) at Patersons Stadium

THE SIX-POINTS
1. It's mixed results between the sides recently; the Dockers have won three of the last five games, but the Tigers have won five of the last eight.

2. This will be the 28th clash between the sides and the Tigers hold a narrow advantage winning 15 times to 12.

3. At Patersons Stadium it’s in the home team's favour; from 13 contests Fremantle have won eight.

4. Richmond has lost its last four matches at Patersons Stadium and has struggled over the last decade at the venue losing 13 of 16 games.

5. Did you know under Damien Hardwick the Tigers have won only 38% of their interstate matches?

6. Both teams have strong defences this season. Fremantle is currently ranked 4th for least points conceded, Richmond is ranked 6th.

McPharlin is a huge in for them. Most important player to their structure.

Unfortunately we need to beat the odds of winning in Perth and only having managed one draw from nine attempts against a side coached by Ross Lyon.

i cant see us us backing up and beating geelong after a trip to subi, so i do think that a win this week is very important.

Does this idiot know our overall winning % under Hardwick. Take that into account and I would think 38% is actually fairly high

Fremantle coach Ross Lyon aims to tame Tiger midfield

    AAP
    From: Herald Sun
    April 25, 2013 3:20PM

FREMANTLE coach Ross Lyon says his team can't afford another mental lapse if it is to tame Richmond's talented midfield tomorrow night at Patersons Stadium.

The Dockers (2-2) are yet to put together a consistent four-quarter effort this season, with a horrible third term against Essendon in Round 3 and a similarly bad opening stanza against Hawthorn last week costing them dearly.

Lyon is well aware of the threat Richmond's midfield poses, with the likes of Dustin Martin, Trent Cotchin, Brett Deledio, Shane Tuck and Shaun Grigg able to tear the game wide open, with the help of ruckman Ivan Maric.

Fremantle has its own midfield matchwinners in the form of David Mundy, Nat Fyfe, Michael Barlow and Stephen Hill, but Lyon said consistency would be the key to victory.

"Richmond have got real speed. That midfield they've invested in over five or six years now is really strong," Lyon said.

"So we understand what we're up against is very impressive. And there's a reason everyone's talking about Richmond, because their best is very good.

"We think we're quite a good team, but we've been a bit inconsistent, which concerns us. But we get a real opportunity to fix that."

After last week's terrible and lethargic effort, a chance tonight to make amends and make a statement about effort in a 8-point game. We owe Freo for last year.

We must play hard, tough, no compromise footy.
None of this lollipop, gay bird, pansy poo we've been dishing up.

It's time to come of age.
It's time to flex some muscle.
It's time to fight.
It's time to make some tackles.
It's time to make a statement.
It's time!

C'mon Tigers!
