Tony Sheahan claiming Buddy will be a Swan on ‏twitter

@TonySheahan - Could Buddy Franklin be using GWS as a smokescreen to orchestrate a trade to the @sydneyswans ? Buddy appears bound for the red&white

@TonySheahan - Buddy was adamant Hawks to be compensated for his release hence a suitable trade. Mumford to Hawks adds weight

@TonySheahan - Tippet and the Swans pulled off a major coup in 2012. swans have the budget and Buddy has the Sydney bug. Makes for grt r'ship

@ElijahBallerini - on a scale of 1-10 what's the likeliness of Buddy being a swan next yr?

@TonySheahan - I'd reckon 90%

---------------------------------------------

So the Swans don't have a salary cap, Tony? :huh3

Swans' $7 million bid for Buddy (Daily Telegraph)
« Reply #17 on: October 01, 2013, 04:18:51 AM »
THE Swans have made a $7m bid to steal Hawthorn’s premiership winner Lance Franklin from cross-town rivals, the GWS Giants.

News Limited can reveal that the move, which will stun the AFL world and enrage Melbourne clubs, involves a five-year, $1.4m per season to lure Franklin to the 2012 premiers.

Space in the salary cap has been created by the retirement of three 2012 premiership players Jude Bolton, Marty Mattner and Mitch Morton.

Power forward Jesse White has also requested a trade and has met with Collingwood.

The big blow for the Swans would be the almost certain departure of premiership ruckman Shane Mumford.

Dafuq?

Retirements or not, how the stuff can a side that almost went back to back fit in that sort of cash? More so after putting another gold digger on $800k? "Cost of living allowance" and "ambassadorial roles" are an absolute stuffing rot.

Look forward to Eddie laying into Colless again tomorrow morning on the radio.

They will definitely lose Mumford and White now, and with Mattner and Morton retiring they will have the cap space but will probably fill the list gaps with kids.

Reckon Mumford is the key one, he was on big $$, so they move him on and that frees up a fair bit of cap, throw in this ridiculous "cost of living allowance" and bingo

You have Buddy running around in red & white

Isn't the cost of living allowance only a % addition to each contract. If not then it should be they shouldn't just get extra money to buy in top players.

I don't believe it has to be spread evenly between all players

if they have 44 players on their list it and if each player was to receive it; it only works out to be about $22.7k each

AFL have stuffed up here by not enforcing strict conditions eg a % of it must go rookies. It should only be going to players on small contracts not the likes of Tippett or soon to be Buddy

Don't know why they keep mentioning Mitch Morton, he would have been on less than Billy the Boot Studder. Its still stuffing ridiculous how the Swans can keep picking up marquee players like
they are going out of style.

So I wonder who GWS will be on the hunt for now? They've obviously got cash to burn. Probably pickup half of Essendon now. We'll have no chance getting Adams now unless we can tempt
GWS with Foley or Grimes.
