Hawks do their sums on Franklin

Hawthorn president Andrew Newbold says the Hawks are preparing to deliver Lance Franklin a revised contract offer, but concedes it's ''intuitively possible'' the superstar forward could walk out on the club two days after playing in a grand final.

The Hawks want to know before the end of the season whether Franklin, a restricted free agent, will remain, or accept the riches on offer elsewhere, most likely from Greater Western Sydney.

The Giants' list manager Steve Silvagni said on Sunday his club was speaking with Franklin's agent, Liam Pickering, but Giants football boss Graeme Allan would not confirm on Monday whether a reported six-year deal worth $9million, excluding third-party deals and a possible AFL ambassadorial role, had been tabled.

Reports are surfacing that Lance Franklin has told his teammates this evening at their post match celebrations that he will not be at the club next year.

Teammates are said to be sad but understanding. After all, he has played in two premierships for the Hawks and played 10 years at the club.

Looks like it won a Coleman and two premierships and possibly leaving at the same age as Ablett going to Gold Coast. Actually looking at the news today his body language I reckon he's gone.

Drafted 2004 leaves 2013, that's 9 years but no, not 10.

Honestly they might do just as well without him as long as they get a good draft pick for him.  Just like we can do without Dusty and Geelong did without Ablett, Buddy is not indispensable.

The afl draft and free agency facebook page is reporting buddy using gws as smokescreen to deflect to swans. With a number of well paid retirements plus losing players like bolton, mattner, morton, white, mumford they will have pkenty of salary cap space.

Imagine tippett, buddy and reid in fwd line  :o
Sorry not able to link it, but I know a few ppl here have that page on fb
