I saw this on the Roos page on BF. Some happy and not so happy memories.
Roos vs Tigers 1980-2004R10, 1980 (MCG) – Roos 98 vs Tigers 105A close game but it was Blight receiving a handball from McCann and then running into an open point that is generally remembered.
R21, 1980 (Arden St) – Roos 98 vs Tigers 109A match made famous for the vision of Tiger legend Bourke running back with the flight of the ball whilst having a face full of blood from an earlier clash.
R1, 1982 (MCG) – Roos 104 vs Tigers 122Despite the loss it was the stunning debut from the Krakouer brothers that made the headlines.
R20, 1985 (Arden St) – Roos 116 vs Tigers 66The last game ever at Arden Street fittingly won by the home team. Can anyone help me with who kicked the last goal?
R5, 1989 (MCG) – Roos 134 vs Tigers 171The highest scoring game ever between the Tigers and the Roos. Nine goals to 2 in the third wins it for the Tigers. 18 goals scored in the last quarter.
R2, 1990 (MCG) – Roos 209 vs Tigers 68The score of 13.3 in the first quarter is still a league record. Longmire become the first Roo to kick 12 in a game and the youngest ever to score 10. The margin of 141 is still the biggest ever win by the Roos.
R14, 1991 (MCG) – Roos 172 vs Tigers 128Another high scoring game and another bag for Longmire. This time it’s nine but German is the BOG.
R17, 1992 (Princes Park) – Roos 119 vs Tigers 118Two battlers at a neutral venue produce a classic. The Roos seem home at ¾ time but the Tigers finish stronger. A free to Hogg against Martyn give the Tigers a chance to win it but he misses by a cigarette paper.
R5, 1993 (MCG) – Roos 159 vs Tigers 122Yet another high scoring game sees the Roos score their fourth win from five starts. McAdam on debut kicks 7 goals.
R13, 1994 (MCG) – Roos 67 vs Tigers 72A very rare example of a goalless first quarter. The Tigers have the better of the second quarter to open up a lead that the Roos can’t pull in.
R4, 1995 (MCG) – Roos 85 vs Tigers 134Amazing start to a Monday night game before Anzac Day. Eight minutes into the first term the Tigers have 6 goals to nil. Pretty even from there but Archer’s volley goal is a highlight.
R19, 1995 (MCG) – Roos 110 vs Tigers 100The Tigers lead by 38 points during the third term but Carey and Allison keep the Roos in it. Between them they kick 10 of their side’s first 11 goals. Then the Roos take control and completely overrun the Tigers.
2QF, 1995 (MCG) – Roos 114 vs Tigers 84The Tigers’ first final in 13 years attracts a big crowd and despite a strong effort, they can’t overcome the Roos. Carey’s dominant 2nd quarter opens up the first gap in the game but the Tigers lead early in the last. Two goals each from Scott and Allison seal it. Carey and Longmire each kick 5.
R22, 1996 (MCG) – Roos 141 vs Tigers 109The Tigers had to win this game to make the finals and the Roos had to win to get the double chance. Despite a strong game from Richardson and a three even quarters, the Roos kick 9 goals in the last term to enter the finals strongly. B.Harvey’s first game.
R20, 1997 (MCG) – Roos 96 vs Tigers 97Close all day but the Tigers hang on despite a late charge from the Roos.
R3, 1999 (MCG) – Roos 100 vs Tigers 90After a bad start to the year by the Roos it looks bad at half time with a 15 point Tiger lead. But a strong last quarter gets the Roos up.
R18, 1999 (MCG) – Roos 101 vs Tigers 79Scores level at ¾ time in Carey’s 200th game. Five goals to one in the final term give the Roos a valuable win.
R3, 2000 (MCG) – Roos 170 vs Tigers 134Continuing the long line of high scoring Roos/Tigers games, it was 5 goals from King that gave the Roos their first win of the year. With scores close at ¾ time, Frawley berates the Roos as “too old and too slow”. It doesn’t work as the Tigers only manage 1 goal to 7 in the last term.
R6, 2001 (Colonial) – Roos 78 vs Tigers 129Scores level at ¾ time but the Roos are kept scoreless in the last term. McKernan’s “tragic” game where he fails to touch the ball and gets dropped.
R21, 2001 (MCG) – Roos 88 vs Tigers 92The Tigers sew up a double chance the hard way. A strong finish by the Roos gets them the lead until a strong Richardson mark in the goal square. Carey’s last game at the Roos.
R11, 2002 (Colonial) – Roos 95 vs Tigers 84A game dedicated to Martyn’s dying father as he was given permission to wear his dad’s number. The Tigers go into the final term looking stronger but only score one goal from their last 11 scoring shots.
R11, 2003 (Telstra Dome) – Roos 92 vs Tigers 89One of the most emotional games in AFL history. After spending a week in a coma the previous October due to the Bali bombings, McCartney make a return to senior footy. Even the Tiger fans wished him well. A tight game all night with McCartney kicking a goal early in the last quarter and then having a hand in the winner by Harding in the last couple of minutes. Colbert does his panc reas and Gaspar does his knee in the decisive goal.
R11, 2004 (Telstra Dome) – Roos 154 vs Tigers 80The Tigers lead at half time but go completely missing after that conceding 17 goals and slumping to a big loss. Rocca kicks 8.
