Captain's goal. Won the clearance, broke the line and kicked the winner. Would love a captain to stand up in clutch moments like that.
It helps when his direct opponent is McLean who wasn't goalside and the opposition fail to have a defensive sweeper to fill the space goalside of the stoppage. Carlton's defending in that last 5-10 mins was very Richmond-like . The lack of basic footy smarts such as automatically getting numbers behind the ball late in a game when you have a narrow lead is something that we've done repeatedly which has cost us close games.
Also helps when you've played virtually your whole career in a Premiership side surrounded by guns, leaders & quality coaches and have barely missed a full pre-season.
Who's Cotchin's had to learn from and/or play with? Who's been his Bomber, Balme, Hinkley, Sanderson, Ling, Harley, Chapman, Bartell, Enright, Johnson, Corey, Milburn, Scarlett & Ablett? Poor bastard grew up barracking for Geelong too.
ffs he finished his first year chairing stuffing Tivendale off the ground....his first assistant coaches were Royal & Rawlings, he's had Wayne Campbell as his midfield coach...been on a hiding to nothing from day one. Bloody credit to him that he's still been as good as he has.
That's the problem....we've been poohouse for so long none our players have any decent or recent role models.
