ive looked at the draw or what is left of it and the best i can come up with is 10 wins. that is if we are fit and not missing key players. there are no wins for us only losses and 50/50 games imo.
in some ways im hoping the likes of petterd edwards king grigg houli and the rest of the usual suspects play most games as it will mean decent picks come seasons end.
it wont matter who we play, lots of kids or as many mature players as possible we wont be playing finals. its this that the club just cant grasp. playing so many mature hacks each week is a week further away from moving forward and eventually becoming a good side. its another week of development missed by a player who may or may not be able to do better and take us forward.
fb/ morris - chaplin - rance. we need to do better than all three imo but they are the best we have for each role. all regulars.
hb/ vlastuin - astbury - mcintosh/dea. reckon vlastuin and astbury are keepers and regulars anyway. need to find out if dea can take the next step and mcintosh needs the experience.
c/ deledio - martin - ellis. all regulars anyway.
hf/ gordon - griffiths - lennon. gordon has shown enough to at least be kept, lennon like mcintosh needs the experience.
ff/ a edwards - riewoldt - lloyd. azza is a short term fix. easily the best sml/med fwd we have. lloyd has to be persevered with.
r/ maric - cotchin - miles. miles for foley the rest are regulars
int/ jackson - conca - helbig - knights / hampson helbig is the only one who we need to see play and give a decent go to. the rest are regulars anyway.
rotations thru the side for development and maintaining some sort of experience . thomas - elton - williams - mcdonough - arnot - darrou - mcbean - foley.
two oldies in thomas and foley for experience. must have a good look at the rest if at all possible. would noe be looking to fast track mcbean and elton if possible.
we can have the best of both worlds here. we can play kids and keep good structure and experience and stay reasonably competetive. but we arent going to hurt the win side of the ledger too much, yes its a step back towards development. its about finding out what blokes who havent had much of a go can do. we know what the regulars can do and far too many just aint good enough to take us forward. yet they are more advanced than many we need to play.
many of the named 30 odd above are most likely not good enough as well, but its time to give em a decent go and find out what they have to offer its time to get games and experience into as many of the kids as possible.
forget about the win loss ledger for now. it should never have been about it with the list we have. lets focus on development and improvement right across the board.
there was always a chance we could improve on last yr and go backwards in the win loss column. sad thing is we have gone backwards because there has been no improvement in fact many have reverted to type.
not named and only get a game if they can improve weaknesses in their games in the magoos.
batchelor, s edwards, grigg, grimes, houli, king, newman, ohanlon, petterd, stephenson, vickery, banfield. grimes aside id happily cut or trade the lot of em come seasons end. some should be safe because players in the other list are likely to fail.
