Sydney ruthless
« on: May 11, 2014, 08:56:23 AM »
It's time to get ruthless!
Just going through both GWS and Gold Coast lists and both have excess of just about everything. Young stars not getting games because they are behind the Ablett's, O'Meara's and Prestia's of this word. Imagine a young kid trying to break into that midfield. Or a young forward trying to push Cameron, Patton and Boyd out of the forward line. Most kids just want to play AFL and if they think they might be a better chance at another club then we should be in their ears! And their families ears. Kids that would be getting games for most clubs sitting waiting for their turn. With all the early draft pick both these club have had there is no way they can keep everyone. At the start most kids are happy just to get drafted but once drafted most just want to get a game.
We need to be getting professional, promising them game time and extra coin.
At the end of every season each list needs to make a minimum of 3 changes I think, we need to act early and act strongly and leave no stone unturned.
Forget about the Griggs and Houli's now it's time to target some young talent after missing out on that over the last 4 years. We grab even one of these kids, draft another good kid and maybe pick up a FA and we have turned our list around in one year.
Our list needs the added injection of young talent to be able to catch up to these sides in years to come.
But we need to be able to get our heads around offering these kids more money than what they are probably worth now- because that's what's it's going to take. And hopefully that's what they WILL be worth once they start getting a game.
We need to be Sydney ruthless!!!

The AFL has been ruthless in their pursuit of making the franchise teams an instant success. The expansion team's offcuts won't save us from that.

Applaud the sentiment and would hope the club is of the same belief.
It's a matter of execution which is where we fall short
“I find it nearly impossible to make those judgments, but he is certainly up there with the really important ones, he is certainly up there with the Francis Bourkes and the Royce Harts and the Kevin Bartlett and the Kevin Sheedys, there is no doubt about that,” Balme said.

but it would significantly improve us and make us a better side.

we have in fairness to the club had a crack at players from these sides, dom tyson was nearly a tiger they wanted adams and we have picked anthony miles.

we should be looking at all clubs players not jus gcs.gws.

Agree with you big tone but as you know I'm not a fan of Blair and this sort of things is his main job (think you'd agree) and I have practically no confidence he or the club are prepared to be ruthless enough to get any of these kids. Reckon they will again target mature types. That appears to be Blair's MOU
