"With hindsight I've probably played a year too long. At the end of last season I was really confident I could play this year, but it hasn't panned out that way.

"I have been struggling to string a couple of games together this season and feel like it's time I step aside and let someone else come in.

"I'm not confident of playing any decent and good consistent footy in the back half of the year and feel like it's time to step aside."

In some good news to come out of a bleak season that promised so much at Punt Rd Chris Newman has agreed to a new 2 year deal.
Sources close to the club are delighted with this coup stating "Chris has been the backbone of the club for years and a former captain to boot. His presence and experience is just what this club needs"

Dan Richardson reiterated "Chris is an RFC person and when dealing with Chris we need to do things the RFC way depriving two or three kids is what we all are about".

Following on from his groundbreaking and candid interview on MMM last Sunday Chris Newman said
"I feel delighted that the club has allowed me to prolong my career. Getting started in a call centre now at my age on mid 40K would be a step down so I'm honored that the club has shown enough faith in me to keep a few kids out of the side with my unaccountable bruise free type of game and the option of a third year to take me to 35 years old or to join the assistant coaching crew should that third year not be feasible. My opponent runs himself into the ground due to my accountability so me helping to run playing list into the ground by not retiring is abit more payback to the boys".

Richmond currently sit 13th with a 3-8 record and gave up a 6 goal half time lead last start. This appointment seems to be a last ditch measure by the club to cash in on that amazing 2013 finals campaign and relive the glory days of Chris limping out in front of nearly 95000 in that ill fated match.

The club is confident it can attract on good money delisted players from other lowly clubs in the bottom six to start its half assed fornicated rebuild on sand.

A hamstring injury in the VFL was the final straw for Tom Williams, with the luckless Western Bulldogs defender announcing his retirement on Wednesday.
