Where we must improve for top 4 and beyond!
« on: July 04, 2015, 04:52:54 PM »
Thoughts..
Bottom 4-6 each week need to be upgraded.
Lambert, Gordon, Lloyd, Newman, Morris, Arnot, Petterd, Knights have all been rotated through and all a big liabilities. Today vs GWS - Newman, Lambert and Gordon were pretty uncompetitive for 4 qtrs.

No small or medium sized forwards
Lids is it. When he is taken out of the game like today in wet conditions, we have no trump card. Our 3 talls can carry our forward line in the dry but in wet conditions we need genuine crumbing forwards. All of Lambert Newman and Gordon were tried and did not much.

Loose man in defence upgrade
I'm not convinced with Chaplin. He's on big bucks to be 3rd man up. Give Jason cloke a ring who can go this on rookie wages. This means we don't have a quarter back type player. All the top top teams have elite players loose in backing. We have Troy.

Few other little things like more speed and maybe another key back man but those 3 main ones are our key areas of need to get into next category.

First off the rank before looking at personnel - fixing our attitude, intensity and consistency of effort. Once again we failed to turn up to play from the start and it almost cost us again. You can't expect to win games by just flicking a switch for a quarter or two when chasing down a deficit.

Think these 2 points are correlated. Our bottom 4-6 each weak seem to be playing the roles of the small and medium sized forward. Lambert is offering as little as Morris did, Gordon has consistently proven to be an average footballer and Newman is finished.

How about we play four quarters of quality football instead of 1 or 2

Think dominating 4 quarters of football for 22 games is a stretch for even the best teams.

With so much focus on momentum I think up and down form during games happens to all teams.

I think in hindsight Higgins or Gartlett would've been handy as a small.

Nobody surely thinks Lambert is any good do they?

Dudes played a total of ~12 quarters of VFL/AFL footy this year. Give him some time before you call him off. Looked to get in a few good spots as a small forward, something we haven't had all year
