Possession Footy vs Fast Footy - a matter of timing?
« on: April 16, 2016, 08:38:38 PM »
Just watching the Hawks willing themselves over the line for a second successive week and it got me thinking that perhaps our style of play - like the Hawks struggles moreso early in the year where hard running, dry grounds and aerobically fit bodies can really pressure possession based game styles that both the Hawks and the Tigers (who are inferior at it) play.
Perhaps once wet weather kicks in and there are naturally more contests and ball ups we see our game style become more effective.
We just looked so slow, hurried and under pressure last night - would we see this in July at the 'G?
The Hawks have owned this game plan and have the talent, skill and leadership to nail it at all times of the year but perhaps are a touch susecptable early in the season.
A fast footy team like the Bulldogs are able to shoot out of the blocks but perhaps come back to the pack later in the season.
“I find it nearly impossible to make those judgments, but he is certainly up there with the really important ones, he is certainly up there with the Francis Bourkes and the Royce Harts and the Kevin Bartlett and the Kevin Sheedys, there is no doubt about that,” Balme said.

“We are really excited about what we have brought in. We have got great depth of players that can take us where we need to go. We are just putting some cream on the top at the moment,” he said.

Don't disagree WAT but I reckon we'll need a new coach.
We had Jack mention game plans moving in one direction and us in another and Lids talked about fast footy prior to last year.
If there's any rift between player and coach - this might be it.

Op has merit, proof will be in the pudding for 2016. Will it pan out like previous seasons or has footy changed that much?
