RICHMOND coach Terry Wallace says vice-captain Nathan Brown is in the best shape of his career.
Looking fit and beefed-up at the beach yesterday, Brown showed he was well on the way to full recovery after breaking his leg in Round 10 last season.
He first trained in October and, on Wednesday, joined the first skills session after the Christmas break. Wallace said Brown, 27, was on track for a Round 1 return.
"Browny's in fantastic nick . . . probably in the best nick of his career," Wallace said.
"He's just getting the strength and confidence back in the leg and doing full training now. Obviously he's not doing any competitive work, but he's joining in full training routines.
"Our plan has always been looking towards Round 1 and giving him a couple of games.
"Whether that's late NAB Cup or practice matches depends on where we are. That's always been our strategy."
Matthew Richardson, who had a knee drained, also joined his teammates in the water at Kerferd Rd. Mark Chaffey is the only player still sidelined.
"We're very pleased. We've got everyone basically on track," Wallace said.
"Mark Chaffey had a groin injury and had it operated on, so he's a fortnight away from full training."
Richmond's first intraclub practice match will be at Ballarat next month.
