Is it normal for a side to have seven players unavailable before the season has started

Must have been a rigorous pre-season

2 ACL were done early in preseason and they are on the inactove list so we have replacements.

McKinnon being a ruck is taking longer

And in all seriousness it's a very short preseason to it's very intense and most teams cop a few injuries

Determined Tigers ready for 2025

By Luke Sicari

Richmond’s AFLW coach Ryan Ferguson says the work the Tigers have put into this preseason has “far exceeded that of any other” ahead of Friday’s Round 1 clash with Sydney.

Speaking at the Club’s AFLW season launch last Monday night, Ferguson expressed how strongly the team has worked throughout the preseason, and how that commitment to excellence will continue throughout the campaign.

“The work that has gone on in the offseason, in the preseason, has far exceeded that of any other. It has to. The comp is building at a rapid rate,” Ferguson said.

“Our capabilities as a team are much greater than they have ever been before. They have to be.

“What we're not thinking is that because of the work that we've put in and the growth of our team, that we've prepared so well, that this season is going to be easy. When the season kicks off, it is quite the opposite.

“We can, and we will commit to trusting the work that we've done. Trusting the work that we'll continue to do and know that our preparation will allow us to be better when it gets hard.

“I can't wait to meet the challenges of this season head-on with this hungry group that is maturing together, adding great character and great expertise, as we go along the journey.”

Captain Katie Brennan echoed the coach’s thoughts, adding that last season’s Elimination Final defeat to Port Adelaide is serving as motivation heading into the season.

“With every preseason, it brings growth, and this was no different, driven by the sting of last year and our unfinished business,” Brennan said.

“This has fuelled us more than ever and shaped our intent with a clear focus of getting what's required done with new standards and new expectations.

“Preseason earns you the right to throw your hat in the ring and nothing more, but it does set the tone, and we're proud of the work that we've done over the last nine months. More importantly, we're hungrier than ever for what's to come.”

The Tigers face the Swans in Sydney on Friday night in Round 1 of the AFLW season.

ONES TO WATCH

Key Player: Monique Conti

Breakout Potential: Montana McKinnon

New Recruit: Sierra Grieves

Racking up her seventh consecutive club best and fairest, who else but Conti is the key to the Tigers’ success. A brilliant ball-winner and dominant all-round player, she will once again lead a Tigers side hopeful of going deeper in November. Returning from injury after missing all of last season, former Crow Montana McKinnon could be a crucial inclusion through the ruck, as could midfielder/forward Sierra Grieves who is a natural accumulator and was incredibly consistent all through her top-age campaign.

PREDICTION

Richmond is one of a number of teams right on the precipice of title contention, and could finish anywhere from the middle of the top eight to just outside. The Tigers have the pieces to do a lot of damage, it is just yet to be seen if they can do it consistently enough to worry the top sides.

Tiger talks future amid retirement rumours

By Phoebe McWilliams

RICHMOND'S Sarah Hosking has quashed rumours that she will be retiring, saying she'd love to continue her career at the Tigers beyond this season.

The 29-year-old is out of contract at the end of 2025 and has suffered a number of hamstring injuries in recent years, leading to questions as to whether the Tiger's playing days are numbered.

"It's not my last season. I hope," Hosking said on the first episode of Tagged for 2025.

"I'm out of contract. So Richmond, if you're ready, any time to drop a contract in front of me is a good idea, cause I would love to keep playing."

Hosking suffered a season-ending hamstring injury in the dying moments of the Tigers' Dreamtime draw with Essendon in Darwin and is still listed as two to three weeks away from being available for selection.

"It's been a really hard slog ... we've spoken about injuries before and anyone that goes through injuries, it's really tough and difficult," Hosking said.

"It's an emotional rollercoaster up and down, but, you know, at the end of the day, you're in a team environment and a team sport and you want to play with the team. So that's what I'm super excited about, which hopefully I'm not too far off it."

Hosking said she had received messages asking if she was planning to retire.

"I did get a message earlier in the week as well saying, 'Please don't tell me the news. Is it true? Are you retiring?' And I'm like, normally that's either a sign that you should retire and I'm not sure how to take it, but no ... I think if I can get my body right, I've still got a few more years to play in me and I would love to keep going.

"You know, hopefully I'd like to go out on my own terms as well. So please, if, if that's where I'm at 'Rowey' (Sarah Rowe), anyone else, please tell me, you can give me a little nudge. If my time's up, my time's up, let me know."
