Need Leppitsch to work with Balta over next 12 to 18 months. Has fantastic traits to develop into our next star key defender.

The powerfully-built, athletic 20-year-old ... had 20 disposals, including a game-high 10 intercepts, equal game-high seven rebound-50s, a team-high 409 metres gained, and took an equal team-high eight marks, including and equal game-high three contested grabs. He constantly took the game on in his trademark aggressive style and provided the team with good rebound out of defence.

Leppa on SEN compared Balta to Rance. Doesn't have the repeat sprint fitness yet like Rance but he has other tricks that Alex didn't have.

Balta is restricted in the game plan. And fair enough too, he doesn't have the poise yet. But believe me, he is certainly the replacement for rance. Big wrap for Balta.

Astbury's view of Balta:

At times Noah's focus can go wide but that's probably due to his athleticism which is arguably the best on our list. The positive is he is willing to learn off Grimesy and the rest of our backline. He's really improved this year even if the stats may not show it yet. Once he learns to narrow his focus he could be anything.
