Not sure what happened to the original cricket thread  :huh.

Anyway, Khawaja has been dropped from the 12-man squad for the 4th test for Smith.

James Pattinson has also been left out with Mitchell Starc a chance to play his first Test of the series.

David Warner, Marcus Harris, Marnus Labuschagne, Steve Smith, Travis Head, Matt Wade, Tim Paine (c, wk), Pat Cummins, Peter Siddle, Mitchell Starc, Nathan Lyon, Josh Hazlewood.

Good changes I think. Happy to keep Pattinson for Siddle but otherwise I'm happy!

Would've dropped Harris and promoted Khawaja to opener.... :shh

Hope we go with Starc ahead of Siddle - need to take wickets and clean up the tail quickly.. :shh :shh

If Paine wasn't the ceremonial captain (Smith is still the real one :shh) I would've dropped him for Carey... :shh :shh :shh

Never could understand the big deal around Pattinson...massively overrated, particularly by Victorians.. :shh :shh :shh :shh

At least we didn't panic & pick Marsh.... :shh :shh :shh :shh :shh

He can swing it and seam it better than any in the world.

Genuine swing bowlers can never stay fit because of their side on actions and Pattinson is a textbook case of this. He struggled in the second dig of the last test (as did most of our quicks for periods), and can't seem to maintain form.

But if he's at or close to his best, he's our most damaging quick. Dale Steyn Mk II

Pattinson averages 26 with a strike rate of 48.

That’s better than elite.

But by all means base your judgement off the second dig of a dying pitch...

The problem is at the other end of batting order. Our openers keep failing so we're always 2 down for little and on the back foot needing Smith and now Labuschagne to rescue us and make the bulk of the runs. Bancroft's not up to it and Harris has also failed since he has come into the XI. Warner hasn't been able to replicate his ODI form with Broad having his measure this series.

Warner's average vs Broad:

Before this series, 64.8 (324 runs, five dismissals);
in this series, it's 6.4 (32 runs, five dismissals)

I base it on the fact that I've actually watched pretty much most of Dale Steyn's test career and also seen virtually every ball of Pattinson's and even well past his prime, the former is/was still twice the bowler the latter's ever been... :shh

Warner needs to go. Give Carey a shot.

Loving Marnus + Smith combo!

Carey won’t get a shot until they have the balls to drop Paine.

Smith's lowest score in his last 8 Ashes innings (past 18 months) is 76. That includes 4 centuries and possibly heading for another one as he's on 81*. He now needs Wade to hang around with him once the rain stops so we can finally post a strong first innings score.

Another ton for Smith  :clapping.

If only we had someone else in the middle order that could stick around with him.

Ward's dismissal was deplorable

Would be very surprised if he plays the next test or anymore tests

Smith out for 211 chasing runs. He's scored around 1050 runs in just his last 8 innings against England.

Starc went the smash and it's paid off. A run a ball half-century.

Aussies getting closer to a 500 total.
