He is better when he is around the ball,  he just gets lost in a forward pocket .
100 per cent agree

Would be one id delist come seasons end. Regardless of what position he plays he will always be a battler.

Atm our senior team sure can do with his pace and he stands out in this simply because we are so lacking for that commodity.
The problem is well outside of being fast over 10 metres he just does not have an outstanding attribute to get him over the line.

By my reckoning he is in year five and enough is enough we as a club need more than just pace in players we retain.

Imo he and Green should both go at seasons end we just have to do much better to simply attain a good player.

MRJ is contracted for 2026, so will not be delisted

As for Green, I find it interesting you say he should be delisted but you've posted in other threads that you see Smith as long term option.

I have to be honest I am not sold on either

Doesnt matter if RAioli is contracted or not. 5 seasons in is enough for me and at this stage i think he is a bust so why keep him.

Green has done absolutely nothing with many chances to suggest he is should be kept its that simple.

Smith has also done very little.  unlike the other two im prepared to give him another season simply because of his attributes and his injury history and he is younger .

Smith and Green are both 20, Rioli is 22. Not exactly huge differences in age. Like it or not Rioli being contracted means that he won't be going anywhere

What attributes does Smith have suggests he should be given more time?

In my opinion, Smith's biggest weakness far outweighs his so called strengths. Again, my view is that he is a poor decision maker and panics under pressure = weakness. His disposal (kicking) is supposed to be his strength but it becomes are liability when he is faced with pressure

Smith's a stuffing dud - Rioli at his best is twice the player. :shh

I still have some hope for Rioli, I think his best footy is still ahead of him and as his confidence grows we’ll see that. He seems to lack confidence. Get him around the footy and I think he’ll grow the more he gets the footy in his hands.

I like Rioli. Pressure like his doesn’t come around very often. Yes he hasn’t produced much besides that, needs to impact more and eliminate fade-outs but he is still young.

It’s just hard for a bottom 4 team to carry players like him, but I think he’s worth holding onto.
I’d give him 2 more years

I saw every game that Maurice Snr ever played at Richmond, I could go on for pages about his talents & abilities, but I'd rather mention some of his weaknesses for some perspective!

- Extremely one-sided.  Left footed & left handed, then forget it.
- Flashed in & out of games but rarely dominated for 4 quarters.
- Pathetically poor over head.  Couldn't read the ball in flight.
- Poor tank.  Plenty of bang but ran out of gas after 10 minutes.

By contrast, Maurice Jnr is so far ahead of Snr its ridiculous!   Snr was 27 when he came over to Victoria, fully grown & developed, Jnr is 22 this year.

It takes the future ages to get here, but man am I looking forward to it!

I love this post. Great perspective JP.
"The money might have been better. But, at the end of the day, Richmond showed faith in me. It's only fair that now we're 18th on the ladder, I show the faith back in the club and do everything I can to put them in front. In the end, I'm stoked I made the decision to stay. I f***ing love this club”
