Banks locked in for two moreIn-form Richmond youngster Sam Banks has committed his future to the Club, signing a two-year contract extension.
Banks has found career-best form across the past five weeks, averaging 25.6 disposals since making the switch to a role at half back.
The 22-year-old ranks only behind on-ballers Tim Taranto and Jacob Hopper for disposals this season and is also #2 at the Club for kicks and metres gained.
A smooth mover with excellent two-way running capability, Banks had gradually improved his AFL output before taking huge strides in 2025.
The Tigers selected the Clarence and Tasmania U/18 product with pick No. 29 overall at the 2021 National Draft.
Banks broke through for his AFL debut in Round 17 of his second season, adding another five in the final rounds of 2023.
Banks was able to play another 15 matches in 2024, including the last nine in a row, and he has cemented his spot in the AFL team across 12 games this year.
Richmond General Manager - Football Talent, Blair Hartley, said that Banks, who is an emerging leader at the Swinburne Centre, thoroughly deserved his contract extension.
“It has been great to see Sam make the most of his opportunities this season and get some reward for the hard work he has put in to improve all aspects of his game,” he added.
“Sam has now played 34 games at AFL level and is showing that he belongs on an AFL field.
“His strong form this year has been important for us, and we are delighted that he will be able to continue to grow and help drive us forward, along with his teammates, across the next two years and beyond.”
