On our home deck I’m expecting a better performance and improved pressure on opposition with hopefully better tackling technique.

I would also like to see better delivery across the field but especially kicking inside 50.

An improvement from our senior players especially Grimes and Vlaustin who I think have either, mentally, already retired or haven’t returned from holidays as yet.

Richmond v Western Bulldogs

The Tigers and Bulldogs are two sides that are still trying to find their groove, and a win for either side in Saturday's clash could go a long way in that process.

The Bulldogs are coming off their first win of the season, putting together a strong performance against the Lions to take a 14-point victory.

That match was by far the best the Dogs have looked in all aspects of the game in 2023, with their backline holding Brisbane to just 53 points, and their forwards finally finding some form.

Meanwhile, Richmond became the latest victims of Collingwood’s white-hot start to the year, falling to the Magpies in a scrappy wet-weather affair.

Expectations were high for this Tigers squad coming into the season, however after three rounds they’re yet to put together a truly complete performance, with their sole win over Adelaide looking shaky at stages.

Both clubs have had trouble with their efficiency going inside 50 to start the year, each sitting near the bottom of average points per game as a result.

Despite this, the Tigers certainly have the star power and track record to come out of the gates firing, so the Bulldogs’ backline looks set to have their hands full.

Richmond will receive a hefty boost heading into the matchup with the return of Dustin Martin and Jacob Hopper, however the Dogs certainly have the talent to match.

With both sides heading to the MCG desperate for a win, this is a clash that could ultimately go down to the wire.

Richmond:

Tom Lynch must have more impact on the game in Round 4 than he did in Round 3. He was matched up with Billy Frampton for much of the game against Collingwood and only managed one goal – he needs to be better than that. He also needs to help bring the ball to ground for the likes of Shai Bolton and Maurice Rioli.

Western Bulldogs:

Adam Treloar has only unfortunately played two games in season 2023 as the Bulldogs need him to stay injury free. He racks up the stats and has averaged the most score involvements of any Western Bulldogs player with 5.50 score involvements per game. It’s difficult to find a matchup for Treloar, as most of the planning by Richmond should go into curtailing the influence of Marcus Bontempelli.

the diver is 100% correct. My view of us hasn't changed in over 12 months. We have a 7-12 team at the moment who has forgotten to play consistent september football, largely to age of personnel.

We wont be doing anything in september unless that changes.

'Bit of a surprise': Dogs bemused by Tigers' selection call

Western Bulldogs coach Luke Beveridge admits he was surprised by Richmond's call to rest premiership heroes Trent Cotchin and Jack Riewoldt for their round four clash on Saturday afternoon.

Beveridge said he had also been planning for dynamic forward Maurice Rioli jnr, who was omitted, to play.

"It was a bit of a surprise, you plan for those guys (Cotchin and Riewoldt) playing, even Rioli," Beveridge said on Friday.

"Part of (Friday) morning was just spent processing and digesting the changes and what that means for us.

"Then we just take care of our roles and our application. It doesn't change a lot for us.

"We've been playing our three key defenders and the boys (Alex Keath, Liam Jones and Josh Bruce) were terrific last week.

"It just means that one of them here and there will need to play on a small-to-medium forward (instead of Riewoldt) which is fine. Our keys are pretty agile."

Taranto to have 25+ disposals

Tim Taranto has been impressive in his early few games for the Tigers.

Across three rounds he has averaged a tick under 30 disposals, amassing 32, 28 and 29 respectively.

In his five career outings against the Bulldogs while with GWS, Taranto averaged 27 touches.

Armed with all that info, we feel Taranto is primed to pick up at least 25 disposals against the Dogs at the MCG on Saturday evening.

Daniel and Dale to combine for 45+ disposals

In seven games against Richmond, Caleb Daniel averages 27.4 disposals which is his best return against any club.

While he is slightly down on his usual output in 2023, averaging 23.7 touches, he tends to be more prolific against the Tigers with 26, 34, 22, 36 and 29 in his last five.

Teammate Bailey Dale has enjoyed two big games against Richmond in his career, picking up 27 touches in 2021 and 31 last year.

He averages a tick over 23 possessions in 2023.

Daniel and Dale have the scope to combine for at least 45 disposals in Round 4.
