I hope I am wrong.
Let’s see how we all feel about this time next year.
On Yze, I think he is doing an okay job so far. Not awful, not amazing. I don’t think that warrants another 3 years that’s all.
I accept that might be harsh to some but it’s a view based on evidence of on field performance. Not just win/loss but % and number of heavy losses our ability to change course in games - i mentioned the norf game.
I don’t think we should be reacting on “industry standard” either.
Look at Freo, they put Longmuire - he’s not even under contract - on staff. That’s actually a great idea and a very progressive approach.
If they (and we) are so confident, why not do that? Protects us if something goes wrong.

I just think there’s a better way to manage it.

It's only fair that now we're 18th on the ladder, I show the faith back in the club and do everything I can to put them in front. In the end, I'm stoked I made the decision to stay. I f***ing love this club”

Wasnt it a 2 year extension, not 3?

HRT, what is it that you're seeing in the footy field that makes you disagree about Yze being a long term option?

Positives
Calm
*Good at relationship building - he’s clearly a good guy which helps build trust
*Game plan when on is good
*Good at communication

Negatives
* Too one note on game day. Was good vs Blues r1 but very little adjusted overall which I think is an open watch given where he came from
* I have seen little or no growth in our younger players - Ross, HRS, Balta, Short etc. He also lost 4 very good players last year - good coaches attract talent.

Watch outs
* Will he develop cubs to become elite talent?
* Will he be able to get top tier talent adjust their own game for role ie. Dimma with Cotchin
* Can he change game momentum more regularly when things go against us. We completely go to water too often and too easily(% was 66 last season)
* Is he strong enough to make some tough decisions on team selection- the whole carousel of dropping fringe players when our most experienced kept getting played bothers me. Exhibit A - KMac plays 23 games and then delisted. Like seriously WTF? It took until October to realise this or did we give him a Dave Warner arm chair ride in his farewell season. Either way, doesn’t sit comfortably with me that behaviour is building a premiership side.

Look at the age demographics of top 10 in our B&F this year. It’s a worry compared to other younger clubs and must change by this time next year otherwise we will be a huge hole.

Some of may sound harsh but there it’s my take and if it doesn’t change by this time next year than we won’t be any better off - he’s effectively now in year 1 of a 3 year contract again so no more training wheels for me.

Yze has led us to the bottom of the ladder.

Dimma and the RFC hopes of getting in another flag led us to the bottom of the ladder.

Yze job is to get us out of it whilst doing a full on rebuild

Yep and I am highlighting what is unproven from him which would need to be in order for him to get another extension in 3 years time.

I wouldn’t have any problem if we were taking it one year at a time as we could see his gradual progression.

I see us more like what Essendon did when they were the baby bombers. I also the point that Barry Davis did the development and Sheedy took the next step.
We may have that scenario but let’s see how Yze goes before making exit plans . In the next couple of years I’m going to judge him on development, competitiveness and culture , not totally on games won. Don’t get me wrong games won are important for moral and confidence but such a Yong side against seasoned sides it’s unlikely to see us winning many.

I don’t think we had a choice but to do a full rebuild  , no one wants to win a few extra game and become the laughing stock by almost making the finals for 30 years.
We aren’t the only ones there are many examples of sides stuck in the rut of getting other sides rejects and not being true competitors for the premiership. If you bring in players when we are ready, make sure they are A or B graders.

I think we all agree with that sentiment Camboon, I don’t think you need to sign him for 3 more years to achieve that.
Like I have said, copy the model of the Dockers with Longmuir, far more progressive, achieving the same outcome.

He was signed for 2 more years not 3, still had 1 left on his original contract.

ADEM YZE ON SEN

Adem Yze joined The Run Home with Andy & Gazey on SEN to discuss his recent contract extension.

----------

Embarking on his third year as Head Coach, Adem Yze said he is thankful for the Club’s faith in him and is excited about the future.

“I’m just super grateful for not only the opportunity, but also the direction of the Club. It’s just so clear,” Yze told SEN.

“I have a direction and understanding of how long it is going to take and what a regeneration looks like.

“So, for Dunny (Shane Dunne), the Board, Livo (Tim Livingstone) and Blair Hartley, for everyone to get their heads together and understand how long it could take was awesome.

“We have some amazing people within our footy club, and they are so clear in our direction."

Yze has done an exceptional job of nurturing the next generation of Richmond talent as the Club embraced a young list since he took over as Coach.

Now, it is about fast-tracking these players’ development, with the hopes of achieving the ultimate success.

“It does feel like, as a group, that we have just started to scratch the surface,” Yze said.

“We don’t like sitting where we are, so as a footy club we are really clear on the process, but as a playing group we are really impatient to get back up there, so that is my job to fast-track that.

“I love the hands-on coaching, and I had a meeting with our players around that and the development, and even the PD.

“Going overseas and looking at development programs and academies, rather than going over and looking at systems and methods...we have a younger list, so we have to change the way that we think to fast-track the development of our younger players.”

In last week’s draft, Richmond added four new Tigers in Sam Cumming, Sam Grlj, Zane Peucker and Noah Roberts-Thomson.

Yze credited the work of the recruitment team in acquiring the best young talent who will propel the Club forward for years to come.

“I made it really clear that I wanted the best players,” he said.

“No doubt we have one of the best recruiting teams in the business, and Blair is on top of that.

“I put full trust in our recruiting team, and we have some highly talented kids coming through our doors, and they look like they are ready and eager to help us climb back up the ladder.

“Right now, we want to bring the best talent we can and not only the two early picks but all four that have come through the doors are really highly talented kids, and they deserve to go that early in the draft.”

Yze also discussed the prospect of the side making it into the AFL’s Wildcard Finals Round, which comes into play in 2026.

“That little carrot to have that opportunity to finish 10th and maybe sneak in, even if it is just that exposure for a young list like ours,” Yze said.

“Playing in a Wildcard Round as a first stepping stone to finals footy is exactly what we need, so we will be striving to do that as soon as possible.”
