There's an article on  the AFL website explaining the logic behind this trade. Port wanted the player and Freo needed to dump salary to free up cap space and create an extra space on their list.

Pick won't get used but it's a win_win for both Clubs

Sydney has offered a deal to Carlton for Charlie Curnow.

Pick 11, 2026 first rounder, Ollie Florent & Will Hayward.

The Swans want Curnow and a late pick in return

stuff

Blues should take it and run.

Unless Curnow does a Daniher I am quite suss on his knees. Reckon that's a huge return for Curnow.

Not to mention he kicked something like 19 of his 80 goals in a Coleman year against WCE in two games.

I am a huge wrap for Charlie. At his best, he’s got all the attributes to be a top shelfer as a key forward.
Sydney is the perfect fit as it has been so many times before when a key forward wants out of Melbourne.

It’s the perfect match and I think putting knee to one side (Crazy Joe Daniher had a very similar knock on him) he will kill it at Sydney
"The money might have been better. But, at the end of the day, Richmond showed faith in me. It's only fair that now we're 18th on the ladder, I show the faith back in the club and do everything I can to put them in front. In the end, I'm stoked I made the decision to stay. I f***ing love this club”
