Every AFL club’s biggest trade target and scenarios with out-of-contract stars — Mega trade state of play

RICHMOND

Given the expectation that Richmond would be well entrenched with their rebuild this year, Punt Road hasn’t been the final destination that it once was for players on the move — but that could already be changing.

The club has done very well to lock away and extend a number of young guns early into 2025, and it could entice the future recruitment of Harley Reid.

West Coast’s number one pick from the 2023 draft has been linked to several Victorian clubs, but no doubt with plenty of money to splash and a serious amount of potential in the coming years, the Tigers could well be a point of attraction for the young gun — should he choose to move back to his home state sometime in the next 18 months.

One of the club’s most in-form players currently out of contract right now is Sam Banks, who has flourished in his role off half-back in the senior side.

Teammate Thomson Dow is without a contract beyond 2025, and while he’ll miss a substantial period due to a kneecap dislocation, it looks likely that he’s done enough to earn a new deal.

Mid-season draftee Jacob Blight has shown plenty of promise down back as well, and surely deserves a new contract.

The club will also face decisions on the future of premiership heroes Tom Lynch, Dion Prestia and Kamdyn McIntosh. Each has a genuine case to keep playing next year — and quite possibly beyond — but staying fit and healthy between now and then will be the biggest factor in their future.

The likes of Campbell Gray, Tyler Sonsie, Tylar Young, Liam Fawcett and Jacob Bauer will all be battling to continue their AFL careers at Punt Road in the coming months.

Reckon this idiot doesn't watch much footy.

Dow will get a contract but shouldn't.

Lynch will if fit. Prestia the same. Kmac not a chance.

Blight, Gray, Sonsie, Fawcett, Young will all get contracts too for better or worse.

Bauer is finito surely.

I don’t think kmac isn’t a chance. He’s been best 22/23 all season according to match committee. Is fit as a fiddle and can’t remember the last time he was injured. Wouldn’t be surprised if they gave him another 1 year.

I think Dow and Sonsie may be moved on especially if we are picking up another 2/3 mids in the draft / trades. Sonsie I feel may seek opportunity elsewhere rather than being delisted if he doesn’t hold his place at AFL level.

This will be just Claw still having a go at poor old Kamdyn.
If he had a brain he would just retire at seasons end. He has become the epitomy of a list clogger for me.
That is a mature player who is no longer good enough but continues to get games in front of younger players. He not only gets games but in roles he is lousy at.
He just does not have anything to offer anymore.
Retire please.

If it came down to keeping say Jack Ross or say  Smith id get rid of Ross even though right atm we are likely to get more out of him but he sure as hell is not and has never been the future. Like Kamdyn he will get games in roles that should be going to kids.Smith may not be an answer either but id rather play him instead and find out we know what we are gunna get with Ross.

The worst of a clubs list cloggers are the ones that ultimately play 80  100 games but are never going to take you anywhere. They are the ones that stall or slow down  rebuilds for me out Ross and in a real mid trade or free agency who can actually help the kids and improve the area.

RICHMOND

It’s only been positive news at Punt Road in recent weeks, with the Tigers re-signing a host of young talent once again since our last club update.

Defender Sam Banks has flourished in recent weeks and earned himself a deal until the end of 2027, while Liam Fawcett has signed a one-year deal into 2026.

Given the expectation that Richmond would be well entrenched with their rebuild this year, Punt Road hasn’t been the final destination that it once was for players on the move — but that could already be changing.

The future recruitment of Harley Reid will only become more and more likely over time, however West Coast’s number one pick from the 2023 draft has been linked to several Victorian clubs. But with plenty of money to splash and a serious amount of potential in the coming years, the Tigers could well be a point of attraction for the young gun — should he choose to move back to his home state sometime in the next 18 months.

Teammate Thomson Dow is one still without a contract beyond 2025, and while he’ll miss a substantial period due to a kneecap dislocation, it looks likely that he’s still done enough to earn a new deal.

Mid-season draftee Jacob Blight has shown plenty of promise down back as well, and surely deserves a new contract too.

Seven’s Mitch Cleary reported recently that the Tigers have started early talks on a one-year extension at Punt Road for Tom Lynch, however the future is less clear for fellow veterans Dion Prestia and Kamdyn McIntosh. Both have a genuine case to keep playing next year — and quite possibly beyond — but staying fit and healthy between now and then will be the biggest factor in their future.

The likes of Campbell Gray, Tyler Sonsie, Tylar Young, and Jacob Bauer will all be hoping to continue their AFL careers also with a new deal.
