Strange one for mind. I wonder whether he’s good mates with cumming/cumming rates him highly.

Looks like 3 boys from the dominant SA team this year, given we can still pick up Kellaway

Zane Peucker

height: 179cm
D.O.B: 04-12-2007
Position: Forward-Midfielder
Club: Woodville-West Torrens
Leagues: AFL U18 Championships

SNAPSHOT:

“A powerful, quick and high-impact small forward who has also made his name in midfield.” – Michael Alvaro

Zane Peucker is among the bolters of this year’s budding AFL Draft crop. The Woodville-West Torrens prospect fits that moniker in more ways than one, not only rising the ranks as a top-ager, but also possessing plenty of power and speed. He was one of seven original inclusions to the South Australian Under 18 squad this year, which went on to take out the title undefeated.

A premiership player with the Eagles in 2024, Peucker showed progress throughout 15 bottom-age appearances. He lifted his 13.1 disposal average to 24.8 in 2025, also booting 16 goals in 12 games. His early-season exploits in midfield began to garner attention from state selectors, guiding a transition into more of a forward role. That’s where he thrived at representative level.

Peucker played out a full National Championships, kicking goals in every match including two against Vic Metro. He lifted his level back in club colours once star pair Jevan Phillipou and Jack Cook stepped into the League grade, and has always strived to match their standards. A Geelong supporter, Peucker also strives to mould his game on Brisbane gun Zac Bailey.

STRENGTHS:

+ Energy
+ Hurt factor
+ Kick penetration
+ Power
+ Scoreboard impact
+ Speed

IMPROVEMENTS:

- Composure
- Endurance
- Tackle pressure

Peucker consistently punches above his weight with explosive athletic traits and boundless energy in the forward half. He possesses raw power and speed, which he showcased at the National Draft Combine with a 20m sprint time of 2.952 seconds. His preseason effort of 2.893 would have put him on the end-of-year podium. The South Australian uses it on-field too, backing his pace to leave opponents in his wake as he charges towards goal.

Everything Peucker does is full of intent. He brings an X-factor to the play, making things happen in moments of chaos and flair. A major part of that is his competitiveness, which he uses to hunt the loose ball, drive his legs out of tackles, or stick solid overhead marks. His core strength and compact frame also help to generate opportunities, with the tough small talent able to role with the hits and continue barrelling forward.

Pecuker's hurt factor can be observed in several ways. He breaks the play open through force and connects the lines with daring runs, putting defenders on the back foot. His kick penetration is terrific, capable of clearing 50m on the run which in turn lends to his scoreboard impact. Peucker went goalless just twice in 12 SANFL Under 18 games this season, booting 16 majors and also hitting the scoreboard in each National Championships match.

His high-intensity, high-impact style is also complimented by high footy IQ. Peucker positions well at the fall of the ball and crumbs cleanly before immediately looking towards how he can hurt the opposition. Although, there is room to add polish to Peucker's style, as he can tend to blaze away or execute scrappy kicks under pressure. He finished on goal at a 47 per cent rate (16.18) this year, so can certainly enhance his accuracy.

Improvement will also come in Peucker's endurance running. He is seeking to cut down his 2km time and can translate that to greater impact out of possession. So many AFL small forwards are pure workhorses, so Peucker can certainly build his running tank and lift his tackling output, especially as he transitions from midfield to the forwardline. Although, in possession, he can apply pressure to the opposition through sheer intent.

DRAFT RANGE: Late/Rookie

SUMMARY:

While Peucker put up some of his best numbers and performances to be recognised as a midfielder, he will likely be considered a specialist small forward option at the draft. His raw power and speed are assets which catch the eye and make him a highly impactful player each time he possesses the ball. That being said, he’ll need to bring his endurance tank and tackle pressure up to the same standard of his attacking traits in order to thrive at the top level. He could be a bolter in the mix, but likely fits in late in the piece or as a high-energy rookie who will give his all.

Straightforward approach sees pacey Peucker improve rapidly

ZANE Peucker started his season with a clear goal – to make the state 18s side – a fairly reachable watermark for an athlete of his calibre. Not only did he achieve that, but he was also pivotal in his state’s dominant National Championships run. Pair that with a stellar season for Woodville West-Torrens, and the 17-year-old is heading into the draft as one of the most sought-after small forwards.

Like a lot of talented junior footballers, Peucker played his career in the midfield. Unfortunately for him, SA’s engine room was packed with adept ball-winners and contested bulls, meaning the speedster was pushed forward. There, he was able to establish himself as a damaging forward-half player.

“In the first few rounds [I was] playing as a midfielder, then got told to go play up forward for the state team,” he told Rookie Me Central at the National Draft Combine. “So that was a bit of a change-up… And since then I’ve been a bit more of a forward-mid.”

Peucker enjoyed an overwhelmingly successful season, playing finals in both the SANFL Under 18s and school football. After returning from State duties, he relished the opportunity to line up alongside friends.

“In school footy, I think we finished third or so, so that was pretty good. Good fun playing with your mates back there,” he said.

And out of all the talented draft prospects he played alongside this year, he singles out his Eagles midfield counterparts as his biggest inspirations.

“Jack Cook and Jevan (Phillipou), we’ve gone through all together, and they’re always people I set to strive to be,” he said. “They were always in the state teams, so I was pushing to keep up with them and everything, and they helped push me, definitely.”

When Cook and Phillipou stepped up to senior football in the SANFL, it left Peucker with the opportunity to once again occupy the midfield, a task he didn’t take lightly.

“When they went up to the League side, there was definitely more midfield minutes for me… I kind of tried to step up, which I did”, he said.

With the potentially life-changing National Draft looming, Peuker remains modest in his goals, knowing he has the capacity to improve beyond his expectations.

“I want to finish school, I’m hoping for mid-80s ATAR,” he said. “And then I want to just keep working on my 2km running. That’s something I’ve really had to dial in over the last few seasons. In this preseason, I want to really work on that.

“I ran in the 6:50s [at the combine], which I was hoping for a bit better, but it’s alright. It’s something I’ve worked on.”

Tigers grab Zane Peucker

RFC website
Nov 20, 2025, 7:37 pm

Richmond has selected Woodville West-Torrens forward/midfielder Zane Peucker with its third selection, No. 31 overall at this year’s Telstra AFL Draft.

Peucker was a dominant force for the Eagles U/18s this year, averaging 25 disposals, 1.5 goals, and 5.5 score involvements per game.

The damaging forward half player was particularly prolific late in the year, with 34 disposals and two goals in a narrow loss to West Adelaide in Round 14, and 31 touches and three majors the following week against Norwood.

Peucker also booted a goal in every game he played for the National Championship-winning South Australia, where he was a teammate of fellow Richmond draftee Sam Cumming.

Richmond National Recruiting Manager Rhy Gieschen said Peucker was a player with a great feel for the game and was strong in the contest.

“Zane has speed and power and consistently impacted games as both a midfielder and forward throughout the season,” he said.

“He is one of the youngest players in this year’s draft, given that he was born in December, and we feel he has a lot of development left in him.

“We are excited to welcome Zane and his family to Tigerland and know his father will be particularly over the moon, as he is a one-eyed Richmond supporter.”

Peucker, 17, stands at 179cm tall. His community club is Port District.

Zane Peucker (Pick 31, Richmond)

The Fox Sports Lab had Peucker pegged at 94th, but the Tigers took the forward-midfielder with the sixth pick of the second round. The forward-half weapon averaged 25 disposals, 1.5 goals, and 5.5 score involvements this year for the Woodville West-Torrens under-18s. “It’s definitely something you can’t really speak about. The feeling, I’ve never felt anything like it, it feels amazing,” Peucker said on Fox Footy after having his name called out. Peucker said he modelled his game off of Brisbane star Zac Bailey and Bulldogs small forward Rhylee West, adding of playing AFL footy: “It’s always been something I’ve wanted to do, but it’s only really come in the past couple of months where I got invited to the national combine and now here I am.” The South Australian kicked a goal in every game he played for his state at this year’s carnival, joining fellow statesman Sam Cumming at Tigerland. Richmond recruiting boss Rhy Gieschen said of Peucker: “Zane has speed and power and consistently impacted games as both a midfielder and forward throughout the season.”

Sounds good.

Quick dash, good numbers at his U18 level, scoreboard impact every game at the combine.

If he's modelling his game on Bailey and West I think I'd rather he focused more on Bailey.

Cummings and Peuker are cousins

Thought it was a throwaway term, didn't realise they were actually related.

So we're likely to have 4 kids from the SA U18 team - Cumming, Grlj, Peucker and Kellaway. Should be nice for them as a group.

Have to say Grlj seems quite entertaining as a kid. Bet the players are charmed to have him.
