The Melbourne rebels will sniffing about too, I'd think?

Have they got any 18-20 yo Melbournian kids who understand AFL footy ... giving 1 or 2 a chance may be a worthwhile exercise.

Wouldn't think so as it would be hard to find a kid outside of NSW and Qld up to standard to play NRL. IIRC the Storm's feeder club is in Qld.

Melbourne Storm seeks legal advice on challenging NRL sanctions (H-Sun)
« Reply #173 on: May 13, 2010, 02:14:17 PM »
MELBOURNE Storm has taken legal advice about challenging the NRL's sanctions against the club over salary rorts.

The independent members of the board, those not aligned with the club's owner, News Limited, have engaged Melbourne law firm Arnold Bloch Liebler to look in to how NRL chief executive David Gallop reached his decision.

There have been suggestion he acted outside the NRL's own rules, but the specific legalities of what the directors might base their case on are unclear.

But it's believed they have been told they would have a good case.

I wonder if those saying this are prepared to go "no win, no fee" ?

It might have something to do with Gallop being unclear in his declaration on the club.
ie-who was actually responsible as well as obtaining alleged evidence under questionable methods.

NRL is an inferior product to AFL in every way from the CEO down.

Would be very unprofessional for the NRL if the Storm win in the courts.

NRL's Gold Coast Titans cap rorting rumours?
« Reply #178 on: June 30, 2010, 05:11:51 AM »
Betting has been suspended on the Gold Coast Titans to win the NRL wooden spoon but the NRL and the Titans are denying any salary cap issues...

A BOOKMAKER has suspended betting on the NRL wooden spoon after fielding several bets on the fourth-placed Gold Coast Titans but the NRL says there's no reason to expect a salary cap breach announcement.

Sportingbet Australia stopped the betting after taking a series of wagers on Tuesday morning on the Titans to come last this season.

GOLD Coast chief executive Michael Searle had a message for punters and bookmakers yesterday: Titansbet is happy to take your money.

Searle, currently overseas in his other guise as manager of Australian surfer Joel Parkinson, has vehemently denied his club has done anything wrong. And he is more than happy to put his money where his mouth is.

Rumours have swirled around the Gold Coast for months, stretching back to the club's fall-out with builder Alex Simpson over its Centre of Excellence.

Simpson claimed he had promised to build a house for Titans captain Scott Prince free of charge in an attempt to circumvent the salary cap. Prince and the Titans denied the claims, and an NRL investigation found no evidence of anything untoward.

That was expected to be the end of the matter, but it has continued to simmer in the background -- until this week. The latest dramas began on Monday when an anonymous caller rang a Sydney radio station with a tip that the Titans were about to be busted for breaching the cap. The speculation grew legs yesterday morning, when a betting agency posted a wooden spoon market -- only to remove it soon after following several small wagers on the Titans.

Even if GC got pined I think the NRL would make a point of them being able to finish above Melbourne who won premierships and whose rorts went on for a few seasons
