Player ratings 2004
« on: September 03, 2004, 03:49:41 PM »
Sorry to copy a topic from BigFooty, but I was just wondering how everyone here rated our players performances this year?

Here's my ratings. Players who didn't play that much or who were delisted weren't included

Fleming: 5 - He is a 5 out of 10 footballer and he extracted all he could out of his ability.
Campbell: 5.5 - A shadow of his former self, but still better than most
Schulz: 3.5 - Showed glimpses, including that magnificent performance agaisnt Brisbane, but has a long way to go.
Fiora: 3 - Was playing ok at the start of the year but degenerated as the season went on.
Richardson: 7 - A pretty consistent year from Richo, one of his best for the club, but still managed to mix the ordinary with the sublime
Stafford: 4 - Wasn't having his best year but was still contributing before injury ruled him out
Brown: 7.5 - Lived up to the billing and dominated the first half of the year, dropping his game a little in the second half after it just became process
Bowden: 8 - Completed his best season for the club and finished the year really strong after a somewhat ordinary start
Ottens: 5 - Statistically did well, but virtually had no impact on any match
Johnson: 7.5 - Had a better year this year than last year in my opinion, playing his best and most consistent season of footy
Pettifer: 4 - Showed he can play AFL, enjoying a solid patch of footy mid-year
Rodan: 3.5 - Came on late a little in an otherwise schithouse year
Krakouer: 5.5 - Was on fire at the start of the year but fell away a little as the year went on.
A.Kellaway: 3.5 - Has been a solid player in the past, but now on the decline
Chaffey: 4 - Ditto.
Gaspar: 1.5 - I know he was injured, but that was just embarassing
Coughlan: 3 - Injury ruined his year
Hilton: 2.5 - Typical lazy play
Hartigan: 4.5 - Started and finished the year of well after enduring a lean middle period
Hyde: 5 - Like Fleming, maximised his potential
Newman: 6 - maybe i'm being generous, but I hadn't given anyone a 6 out of 10 yet
Zantuck: 3 - Disappointing
Tivendale: 5.5 - Up and down year, another amongst many who took a backward step this year
Hall: 4 - Better than I expected

This could be a bit of fun....so here we go:

Fleming: 3.5 - Cant say anything about his effort, but his technique is busted and he just cant RUN
Campbell: 6 - Its hard when you are not fit and it was evident. Will never be the same but still managed to get the pill a bit
Schulz: 5 - Really slow start w/ mistakes, but game time really helped him come along. Showed glimpses, needs consistency for next step
Fiora: 1.5 - No skill...no brains. For a running half-back, was terrible as he offered nothing and turned it over.
Richardson: 8 - Cant ask for much more than to beat your opponent everyweek
Stafford: 4.5 - Didnt see enough of him, but was average whilst playing
Brown: 6.5 - Great start but tapered off dramatically (dogged down by the rest of the crap)
Bowden: 7 - Would have got a 9 had he been more accountable, provided lots of drive, great improver
Ottens: 3 - Officially the worst tap ruckman in the lead, and was not damaging around the grounds
Johnson: 6.5 - Tried hard but went missing too often. Can hold his head high
Pettifer: 5 - Lack of game time, but had a top patch in the middle and showed he will definately improve
Rodan: 4 - Left it way too late to turn it on...but when he did showed his value. Need consistency
Krakouer: 5.5 - Just brilliant at creating in tight situations. Like Roder, needs consistency
A.Kellaway: 2 - What did he offer but falling over at every opportunity?
Chaffey: 2.5 - Ineffective....plain and simple
Gaspar: 2 - Poor bloke was getting grilled and playing at CHF does not help
Coughlan: 3 - Shouldnt have played early...didnt see enough but only knows one way to play
Hilton: 2 - Grilled by injuries and when he did play just struggles with pace and skill
Hartigan: 5.5 - Enjoyable to watch a little nuggety defender
Hyde: 4.5 - Was coming along until genuis decided he was tagger, taking his effectiveness out of his game
Newman: 5.5 - Worked hard. Just needs more of it.
Zantuck: 3 - Shambolic......potential plus....means nothing.
Tivendale: 4.5 - I expect a lot more from Tivvers. Needed more drive and a right foot
Weller: 3.5 - Looked the type in Adelaide. Lacked game time and speed
Morrison: 1.5 - Flick marks anyone?
Tuck: 2 - Crucifed by match committee (apparently he mis-uses it!!!)
Den uparxei Ellada xwris AEK.

Fleming: 5.0 - Gets an extra point for his attack on the ball and courage. Disposal is the issue

Campbell: 5 - Has done the right thing by giving up the captaincy. One of the main culprits of slowing the play down >:(

Schulz: 5.5 - Still didn't get enough game time. Showed what is possible against Brisbane

Fiora: 2.5 - Horrible second half - trade now for Aaron's sake as much as the RFC

Richardson: 8 - How much better would he be with if he got hit lace out 8 times out of 10

Stafford: 4.0 - Injury ruined his season. Leader

Brown: 7.0 - Showed early why they went so hard to get him- last few rounds were not good - his clangers were shocking - our clanger king in 2004

Bowden: 8.5 - Finally showed what we all knew he could do. Well done Joel

Ottens: 5 - Needs a ruck coach and a mid field that runs to his strengths

Johnson: 7.0 - Next captain - by a mile. Not enough support

Pettifer: 5.5 - Showed what he could do when he was given a settled position

Rodan: 5.0 - Another who when given game time showed a bit

Krakouer: 6.5 - Stands out with his skill. Is there a better tackler in the game for that size?

A.Kellaway: 1.0 - Horrible and got worse after he did his collarbone

Chaffey: 1.0 - Shocking, woeful, ineffective (spot on om21), I could go on and on. His sloppy disposal costs us so many times it wasn't funny. trade him before it is too late - disgraceful >:(

Gaspar: 2.0 - Came back to early and he has to take some of the heat for that. Lost his pace and it cost him and us

Coughlan: 3 - Shouldn't have played in the first 5 games let alone the last 2

Hilton: 1.5 - Doesn't show enough intesity - lucky not to have been de-listed Tueday.

Hartigan: 7.0  - Leader written all over him - a great 1st year

Hyde: 5.0 - Improved but not damaging enough

Newman: 5.5 - To be honest I am not sure - suppose I expected greater improvement

Zantuck: 2.0 - I do worry about where his head is most of the time. But I did enjoy his last game of 2004  :bow

Tivendale: 5.0 - Not enough output but why do we persist with trying to make him an "in and under" midfielder - go to man only - you know a wingman

Weller: 3.0 - Adelaide game good - game time issues

Morrison: 2.0 - Still cannot understand why he was dropped the first time. Why wasn't he tried at CHB? I still think he was handled badly by the match committee

Tuck: 3.5 - Showed enough in his senior appearances when he wasn't watching from the bench. Got the worst rap (as in not given a proper go) from the coaches without a doubt. What ya gotta do :'(

Hilton 1  .  Had one fair game for the year against the dawks at Telstra. very unfit.
Gaspar 2   Played one good game against the doggies, played up forward against Grant and took him out of the game, went down back in second half. Really struggled all year.
Ottens  4. Needs to show more Mongrel.
Chaffey. 3 Poor decision maker who has gone backwards
Brown  6  Excellent first half, and no impact when returned from injury, needs to get forward of the ball more often and not get possesions in defensive 50
Pettifer. 3 Not consistent at all.  Did put two games together in the second half although under achieved once again
Stafford.  3 Past his best. Injury makes him a frustrated player. Needs an injury free pre season or else.
Bowden  8. Great second half of year.Did have lapses in concentration on accasions though
Richardson. 8 Cant be blamed for the poor year. Played with niggling back and hamstring injuries in latter half of year. Needs to remain injury free.
Fiora     .1 Very poor year. Has gone backwards. Lacks confidence
Morrision. 1 . Extremely poor year. Needs to lift dramactally
Campbell  6. Fair year considering injuries. Another who need a good pre season to complete his last year in the AFL
Rodan   4 . Played in patches. Needs to work on his defensive side of game (tackles) which is nearly non existent. Poor decision making when carrying the footy. Will probably be offered as trade
Fleming 4.. Tries hard but skills hurt him
Hall   3   Another who tries hard, not physical enough and skills let him down as well
Tuck. 1   Not seen enough although kicking lets him down which would be the reason for little game time
Roach. 2  Needs big pre season
Jackson  4.  Looked good. Will make it
Schultz.  1  One game doesnt make a season. Looked poor in most games. Very overated at present.Needs a big pre- season
Krakouer.  5 Great defensive skills. Looked good early although took some hard knocks mid season which took there toll.
Johnson 6. Fair year although well below his best. Kicking let him down on occasions
Weller  1. Very slow, will struggle
Tivendale  2. Went msssing from Round 1 and never returned, very poor year, Needs to get some grunt in his game
Hyde.  5 Good year, played all games although might be limited
Hartigan  6. Real surprise packet who took them on by foot. Kicking let him down on occasions but looks to have abright future at Tigerland
Newman.  4 Tries hard but probably not in elite level
Zantuck. 1 Very ordinary year.
Kellaway. 1 Might be gone
Moore.  2  Will be a promising player, needs more time though

Archibald - N/A - OP ruined his season.
Bowden - 8 - Best season for the Club after coming back into the sid from a kick up the backside at Coburg ealier in the year. Repelled many opposition attacks and gave us plenty of drive. Agree with om21 that needs to a touch more accountability.
Brown - 7 - On fire first half of year. Calf injury brought him down a level in the second half.
Cambo - 5 - A shadow of his former self but still gets the pill.
Chaffey - 2 - Shocker of a year. Footskills were not AFL standard.
Cogs - N/A - Pubic instability ruined his year
Fiora - 1 - Poor in the VFL let alone the AFL.
Fleming - 4.5 - Tries his guts out every week but skill level lets him down.
Gas - 2 - Knee reco has slowed his speed and acceleration.
Gilmour - N/A - Still developing. You would expect him to debut next year.
Hall - 4 - up and down in his new position at FB.
Hartigan - 5 - Promising youngster. Good early and especially late in the year but a quite middle patch.
Hilton - 1 - Did nothing before doing his knee. Most likely delisted.
Hyde - 4 - A nice mid-year patch of form but needs to do more if he wants to stay at this level and find consistency.
Jackson - 3 - Promising debut year.
Johnson - 7 - Better year than last. Was one of our few consistent performers.
A.Kellaway - 2 - Shocker even before injured shoulder. See Chaffey.
Krakouer - 5 - Inconsistent both in games and year. A mixture of outstanding and absence. Needs to find consistency.
Moore - 2 - Promising in a few games but mainly up and down. Not surprsing as he's only a youngster.
Morrison - 1 - Disappointing pick-up. Can't hold his marks.
Newman - 5 - reasonable but not as good as last year. With his class he should more effective.
Ottens - 5 - Needs a ruck coach and a coach with correct CB set-ups. Not bad but not good either.
Pettifer - 4 - once moved behind the ball he showed he does have some class. Needs to back it up and show consistency.
Raines - N/A - Came on quicker than expected to debut in last game.
Richo - 8 - Best year in terms of attitude and form. Still the enigma as always when it comes to goalkicking.
Roach - 2 - Didn't really hit his straps at senior level but early days given it's his first and debut year.
Rodan - 3 - Hit some form late in the year but obviously not consistent enough. Also ddn't see the natural extrovert part of his character this year.
Schulz - 3 - Excellent in a couple of games but overall inconsistent. Still only 19.
Stafford - 3 - Suspension and injury robbed him of game time.
Tivas - 4 - Disappointing after a very good year in 2003. Opposition sides now oftern catch him on his wrong side.
Tuck - 2 - Strangely denied opportunity for reasons that those in the senior side were committing each and every week.
Weller - 2 - Couple of promising games late in the year but apart from that disappointing.
Zantuck - 3 - Up and down in both form and attitude.

Fleming: 8 for enthusiasm – can’t question that.  4 – for decision-making and footy smarts.

Campbell: 6 – The last few years haven’t been kind to Cambo, injury-wise.  Can’t run or chase, but still racks up getting kicks.

Schulz: 4 – Seems to have a good attitude.  With time to develop, being a player

Fiora: 2 – Wasn’t able to make a real impact and played out the season with Coburg(?)

Richardson: 7 – Can’t complain about his efforts, pretty much all season.

Stafford: 4 – Is the sort of player who could make a real difference, but time is running out.

Brown: 7.5 – Exciting to watch around goal and at least gave us supporters something to cheer about through some ordinary times.  A welcome addition of some class to the Club.

Bowden: 9 – Credit where it’s due.  The reason for the high rating is because, any player who takes their career to a new level, especially at RFC, deserves some sort of praise.  We saw something different with Joel, from the mediocre performances we had become used to.  In the process, he became a real team player.

Ottens: 4.5 – So much talent, so little used.

Johnson: 7.5 – A genuine team player.  Can’t complain about his consistency.

Pettifer: 4 – Did better than expected at times, but average, at best.

Rodan: 3.5 – One of the few players in the team to run and break the lines.  We just didn’t see enough of it, for whatever reason.

Krakouer: 5 – Showed more glimpses of being a good player, hopefully consistency isn’t far away.

A.Kellaway: 3.5 – Consistent for a number of years.  Seemed to have lost confidence late in the season.

Chaffey: 3 – Decision-making at times was frustrating.  Like Tivendale, showed no signs of on-field leadership, throughout.

Gaspar: 3 – That he even played was ridiculous.

Coughlan: 3 – Can’t blame him for wanting to be out there, but that he was allowed to play pre season games when he shouldn’t have was asking for trouble.  That they then continued to allow him to play through the season when they were resting him on the bench, virtually each quarter, surely was a sign that he shouldn’t have been playing.

Hilton: 1 – And that’s being generous.  If he’s to stay at RFC then he needs the biggest kick up the backside to turn him around.  Otherwise, we might as well just play one short on the list.

Hartigan: 8 – Played 19 games and it would have been easy, in his first year, to drop away late in the season.  But to be at his best form late in the season is a credit to his attitude and work ethic.  Wouldn’t be easy, either, for a young player to come in to a team that performs so poorly for the majority of the year.

Hyde: 6 – Showed a bit and even surprised with some of his efforts, but I think he can still improve further yet.

Newman: 5 – Didn’t either go backwards or forwards in his development.

Zantuck: 2.5 – Needs to learn to control the temper.  Mostly unmemorable season.

Tivendale: 3.5 – Seemed to go missing in too many games.  Doesn’t seem able to be a consistent player from one game to the next, let alone one season to the next.  As one of the leaders, showed no glimpses of on-field leadership.

*Jackson 7.5 – That he even played footy this year is a credit to himself and is the reason for the high rating.  Had some decent challenges in the few games he played and stuck to his guns on each occasion.  Would have been a great learning curve for him.

Daniel Jackson was not in my original list....oops

Jackson - 6.0 - should more footy "smarts and nosue" that most of his senior teammates. That's a credit to him and indictment on the others. We nust give him tome but has shown enough togive us hope for the future. Goods skills but needs to bulk up and with a full and proper pre-season .....
