What are your expectations for the NAB Cup?
« on: January 15, 2009, 08:56:08 PM »
3aw tonight were asking people to ring and say what they expect and want to see from their team in the NAB Cup?

A Tiger fan called up saying she just wanted us to get through without injury so we're right for when the real stuff starts and she didn't care about the result. Good ol' Tony Shaw chips in and says Richmond can't afford that.

Would be nice to win in the first round but if we don't (contrary to T Shaw) I don't think it is end of the would stuff....

Don't really care one way or the other to be honest

Spot on, Dockers will be primed to win the nab cup so beating them over there would be a great start. If we lose, pffft.

I'd like just one NAB cup win for a change to stop any major media backlash hysteria hitting us and to feel an early win before the real stuff starts.

But it barely matters in the scheme of things.

* no injuries.

* Mark Coughlan, Tryone Vickery, Cleve Hughes, Jack Reiwoldt, Alex Rance, Andrew Raines, Adam Pattison - to play (Round 1).

* Ben Cousins, Mattew Richardson, Nathan Brown, Trent Cotchin - not to play (Round 1).

* if we win (Round 1), try to win the 2009 NAB Cup - a bit of silverware at Tigerland and to create "momentum" heading towards Round 1 against Carlton.

* been a while since "Richmond Football Club" has won a trophy!

* but i expect us to probably lose.  :-[

I'd like to see us win the first and second rounds. If we don't win then, meh. After that I could care less.

A Tiger fan called up saying she just wanted us to get through without injury so we're right for when the real stuff starts and she didn't care about the result. Good ol' Tony Shaw chips in and says Richmond can't afford that.

Shaw is an idiot. Who cares about the preseason cup. He seems to have no idea about pacing a teams preparation and peaking at the right time.

Tony, there are 16 clubs in the competition. (Perhaps he can't count to 16). There will be 1 or 2 clubs that will be flying at the start of the season but rarely are they able to maintain the momentum. They are normally the teams that have little chance of being around in September. The really good sides will be competitive because they have the class to win. The majority, like us, will be building up slowly in an attempt to maximise wins through the season and play finals in September.

Sorry Tony, we are no longer cellar dwellers who are desperate for and success we can get. No matter how much you want us to be crap it's just not going to be so. Bad luck for you the RFC actually have a genuine chance of finals this year.

Personally I'd be worried about your blancmange of a team who seems happy with the middle of the ladder and doesn't seem to be going anywhere. Here's a prediction for you Tony, Collingwood to miss the 8 this year.

Who gives a stuff anyway, the way Collingwood play they are only there to make up the numbers. Never bad enough to be interesting, never good enough to be successful. You really get the feeling that Collingwood think if they make the finals then that's enough and their year is complete.

Every time he opens his mouth he shows why he was such a bad coach. It is an embarrassment to 3AW that they allow him to speak for them.

I don't know where you have been hiding Shawy, but we're 4000 members ahead of where we were last season. If we did happen to make/win the NAB cup grand final, I'd pencil in 40k members.

Melbourne, Kangaroos, Western Bulldogs (for sponsorship purposes), Sydney and Brisbane would want to go ok to help their membership.

I couldn't give a flying rat's sphincter about the NAB Cup or it's 'Consolation Cup' games.  Doesn't concern me in the least if we lose all 3.  The only interest I have is seeing how the players (especially the kids) go individually.  The concept is a complete waste of time and only serves to mask the true purpose of pre-season games - they used to be called practice matches and that's all they still are, despite the greedy commercialistic attitude of the AFL to convince the suckers (read paying customers) otherwise.  And anyone who reads any more than "practice match" into them is kidding themselves.

I think St. Kilda??

I remember Mike Sheahan going overboard in the HUN 2008 Footy Mag, saying that they were the number one contender, all because they beat them in a NAB cup game.  :lol

But it barely matters in the scheme of things.

Remember the backlash last year when the Saints pumped us with half team?  Seems like a distant memory.  It really doesn't matter and to the clubs credit, they seem quite happy to ignore the media in February when clowns like Tony Shaw and Damian Barrett go looking to drum up trouble after a NAB loss.

can someone explain to me how this Fukwit Shaw is allowed to speak on radio.

He has no idea about footy and to be honest i turn off when i hear him speak.

What is his problem with RFC??

Tony Shaw issue with Richmond began on September 27 1980.
I think it all started with a pantsing on the members stand wing when Jess passed to Weightman for our first goal and it escalate into full scale burlesque after that.
I believe Shaw still has the scars both mental and physical.
