Morton says no grudge against Wallace

Richmond forward Mitch Morton says he holds no grudge towards coach Terry Wallace over the post-match tirade that played a significant role in sparking a week of turmoil at the AFL club.

The three-point loss to Port Adelaide last weekend, taking Richmond to a 1-7 record, and Wallace's angry response, led to a crisis meeting called by the players on Tuesday, sparking speculation Wallace was about to be sacked.

Morton was on Thursday night named in the side to play Essendon at the MCG on Saturday night, the Tigers making only two forced changes.

Morton's retention came despite Wallace reportedly accusing him of costing him his job with a poor decision in the final minute of the game.

With the Tigers three points up, Morton played on and attempted a long shot at goal, instead blasting the ball out on the full, allowing the Power to gain possession and set up skipper Warren Tredrea for the match-winning goal.

Morton confirmed Wallace had blasted him, but said he was more upset that the conversation had been leaked than about the spray itself.

"I was on the end of a conversation which takes place after every game," Morton told the Nine Network's AFL Footy Show.

"In every team there's guys every week that do things wrong in times of a game which are important.

"I made a big mistake at a time of the game which was very important and I deserve to be told I did wrong, the disappointing thing was it got out."

Morton said he and Wallace quickly patched up their differences.

"We talked two hours after the conversation and we were fine," he said.

"As a footballer you're on the end of a lot of things that are said and things are said every week behind those doors which are similar to that, which don't get out."

Morton said he did not feel a sense of responsibility for the upheaval in the days that followed, but did feel he owed the team for costing them a potential win.

"I owe the boys, I owe the footy club and I owe the fans, I'm going to have to win a game at some point," he said.

Morton deserved what he got from the coach Jack, his not been a good boy ;D l still think he played a good part on Sunday but he is still doing what he was told not too
your not controlling the game when players are rushing to play-on & putting themselves under instant preasure before looking for the best option. The message should have been delivered by the runner to slow the game down. Mortons idea to bomb it long into the forward-line would be a good option at that stage of the game.  But him playing on was what peeed them off & putting himself under preasure the ball slewed off his boot which happened many time in that game. But that stage was a bad choice
l like to see Wallace get tuff with the players whoever it is,  even if it was Bowden at that stage. Wallace & the players must bond & move on  :thumbsup l wanna see some wins  :gotigers

monk, the issue is not that mitch copped a spray, it was the message behind the spray and method of delivery.  if terry said things along the lines that mitch was selfish and his actions cost the team and lost the game, fair enough, BUT TO CONTINUALLY HAVE A GO AT HIM AND CONTINUALLY SAYING THAT HIS ACTIONS COST HIS CAREER ARE TOTALLY WRONG.
its nott about terrry or his career , its about the team, terry should have been sacked for putting all the emphasis on HIS CAREER and not the TEAM

there are always things said in the heat of the moment by a coach after a game, l done it myself several times as has nearly every coach done & many times some words come out that if you had your choice over again you would phrase it differently. When you close the door to the clubroom it should be left there.
The coach is there to instruct & the players are to carry them instruction out.  If they dont then whatever is said in the after game meeting shouldnot be out in the media.
Professional footballers should adhere by the team instructions otherwise we will continue to lose games like a few in the last 2 years
l'm not a Wallace supporter as many know but l support him this time. You cannot have players thinking they know better than thier manager its never worked that way & never will.
Also another reason why Richmond is getting Richmond people back into the club is because the leaks in the club, its not hard to work out but l'm saying no more on the matter

How did you know he CONTINUALLY said it? Or was that something that was leaked and hasn't made it to the media?

Suggest people have a listen to (if it's available) to Eddie McEverywhere on SEN yesterday about what was "supposedly" said after the game - he gives a entire version not just the version so many are trying to run with  ;D

The message should have been delivered by the runner to slow the game down.

I think it was TMonk  ;) ;D
