Tiger Martin unaffected by Brownlow talk

AAP
29 June 2016

Richmond star Dustin Martin has remained largely unaffected by speculation over his chances of winning the Brownlow Medal, according to teammate Brandon Ellis.

Martin’s career-best form has been a key factor in the Tigers’ recent resurgence and has seen him touted as a genuine rival for Geelong superstar Patrick Dangerfield for this year’s Brownlow.

“It’s not spoken about around the club at all,” Ellis said of the hype around Martin’s form.

“It’s always in the papers and you see it on social media, but he doesn’t take any notice of that at all.

“(But) he’s been in awesome form this year, hasn’t he? He’s just taken his game to a new level. He’s a lot fitter than what he has been … I think that’s why he’s playing the footy that he’s been playing.”

That's nice Brandon you felt the need to comment. How about talk about your own soft and pathetic season

Would have picked up 1 vote today, maybe 2 at a stretch.

A lot of his touches are meaningless and his team mates just give him the ball even when they should look for another option.

Would be absolutely unstoppable if he was cleaner below his knees....like Matthews, the Abletts, Carey at their peak level unstoppable ...

...and could go forward more if Halfstep moved Vlastuin to the guts....

Dusty watch

Richmond's star midfielder has knocked up plenty of possessions in recent times but hasn't always earned praise for his massive numbers. The Giants decided not to run a tag on Martin but Callan Ward, Dylan Shiel and Ryan Griffen definitely kept an eye on the powerful onballer, and although he finished with 28 disposals, six tackles and four clearances for the day, his influence on the game's result was minimal given the lack of support he got from his teammates.

Wasn't very influential today. Still not sure why they want the ball in his hands in the defensive 50....

Imagine he kicked that from just outside or in our 50, 3-4 times a game...

Watching Heeney for the Swans kick a couple of running goals on the 50 arc. I guarantee had Dusty been in the same position he would have either stopped and propped or run on and tried to execute a little chip pass. No doubt another Hardwick brainwashing subject, sad to see.
