John Longmire will change his views as soon as one of his players lays a bump and knocks another player out unintentionally

I’m a fan of the red card rule for very specific circumstances. Like gaff Brayshaw and hall staker and more recently danger on Vlastuin

What we need to do is get the rule book and interpretations from the 80s and go back to that . We are Aussie RULES FOOTBALL!!!  and let's stick to that.

Phillips' high bump on O'Brien in the Ess vs Adel game is similar to Nank's. Only difference is O'Brien wasn't concussed.

It's the same motion so should be the same outcome.
It should be but won't be. The MRO/Tribunal determines the punishment based mainly on the outcome (whether the player is concussed or not).

Phillips has been given one week. Rated as careless conduct, medium impact & high contact.

Nank by comparison was rated severe impact given Lloyd was concussed.

Red card proposal uncalled for and unnecessary

Nank was interviewed on Nine News tonight.

Quote
"As the leader of the footy club that's not good enough".

Richmond skipper Toby Nankervis is full of remorse as he awaits a lengthy ban for his hit on Jake Lloyd.

Richmond skipper Toby Nankervis reveals apology to Jake Lloyd as ban looms after ugly hit

By Chris De Silva

Richmond skipper Toby Nankervis says he has already apologised to Jake Lloyd after his brutal bump left the Sydney Swans star concussed.

Nankervis was referred directly to the AFL tribunal for his bump and is facing a lengthy suspension of at least three weeks.

The Tigers sit 12th on the ladder, four points adrift of the top eight, and Nankervis' absence could have a major impact on his club's finals chances.

"I sent Jake a message," Nankervis told 9News Melbourne.

"It's obviously disappointing for me, I never want to see anyone concussed.

"Absolutely I have (let the team down). As the leader of the footy club that's not good enough. I need to be better than that and I take full responsibility for it."

Nankervis' hit, which came in the second quarter of a tightly contested clash, again prompted discussion over whether the AFL should implement a send-off rule.

Philips action pretty similar gets 1 week because the player he hit has a tougher head.

Nank's tribunal hearing has started.

Toby Nankervis contests no elements of the charge. He "takes full responsibility". This will be a hearing to determine penalty.

Tribunal panel: Renee Enbom (Chair), Shane Wakelin and Jason Johnson.

Legal teams: Sally Flynn (AFL) and Sam Tovey (Richmond).

Audio-visual problems seem to be fixed.

Toby Nankervis will give evidence.

Toby Nankervis does not confirm his name is Toby Nankervis.

The man who may or may not be Toby Nankervis confirms he accepts "full responsibility".

Nankervis: I'm extremely sorry for the situation and for his friends and family.

Nankervis says he spoke to Lloyd after the game in person and said he was "really sorry" for what occurred. He then messaged Lloyd two days later and reiterated his mistake and apology. Lloyd responded and said he'd had a quiet couple of days but acknowledged his message.

Nankervis: As a leader of the football club, I'm accountable and need to be better than that.
