Given that it would be almost impossible to have a single round or full double round with the current number of teams, I still reckon that the fairest way of doing the draw is over 2 years - each club plays each other 3 times over 2 years making it a 24 or 25 round season.  You might get a slightly better draw one year than the other but not enough to make the differences that appear in the current system.

Or have 1 rival you play twice every year and then you play the other 16 teams over a rotating 4 year period. Still makes 22 game season. It's all about the money though.

The teams that deserve the premiership don't care for "compromised" draws because they win enough to make finals one way or another. It's only underachievers like us who prey to scrape into the 8 that care how the draft is set out

Still no confirmation on a finalised round 23 fixture due to the closeness of the season. Sounds like it'll be a Saturday vs North for us.

------------------------------------------------------

FINALS contenders in every game scheduled for round 23 will see the AFL wait two or three more weeks before locking in times for its floating fixture, with a 'Super Saturday' of six games an option.

The League is yet to announce details for the round 23 games, with an AFL spokesperson saying they were working through possibilities.

They may wait until after round 19 to reveal the full schedule, and are considering holding six matches on Saturday and just two on Sunday. There will be only one Friday night game.

Round 23 fixture (times and days to be set)
Collingwood v Essendon, MCG
Richmond v North Melbourne, Etihad Stadium
Hawthorn v Carlton, MCG
Geelong v Adelaide, Simonds Stadium
Sydney Swans v Gold Coast, SCG
Melbourne v GWS, Etihad Stadium
Brisbane Lions v Western Bulldogs, Gabba
Port Adelaide v Fremantle, Adelaide Oval
West Coast v St Kilda, Domain Stadium

Can see it being on a Friday night if we are a chance for top 4 and N0rt a chance to make the 8
