this is a good fixture for Richmond. We have a side that relies on confidence, if they win the first 4 which they should if they are any good then the team may get on a big roll and run over some more fancied sides. If we turn 2 & 2 at round 4 itll be good night and the season will be over.

Im really happy with the fixture
I dont think its an easy draw at all, I think its challenging and will make or break this playing group and coach.
If what they said this season about the first 10 rds being true and hurting from the losses and coming together as a team, then I see this a great challenge for the team.
Im really excited about the return games against blues, bombers, pies and even norf. Ill get loaded and give it to their pathetic homeless supporters who smell like dirty vag  :chuck

2015 fixture - pros and cons
Travis King
afl.com.au
30 October, 2014

RICHMOND

PROS: The AFL has shown faith in the Tigers by delivering them seven Friday night games and 14 home games at the MCG – including return blockbusters against Carlton, Collingwood and Essendon. Should enjoy a relatively straight-forward opening month.

CONS: Last seven games against expected finals contenders Fremantle, Hawthorn, Adelaide, Gold Coast, Collingwood, Essendon and North Melbourne.

PLAY TWICE: North Melbourne, Fremantle, Essendon, Collingwood, Carlton.
FIRST 4 WEEKS: Carlton (MCG);Western Bulldogs (MCG); Brisbane Lions (Gabba); Melbourne (MCG).
LAST 4 WEEKS: Gold Coast (MCG); Collingwood (MCG); Essendon (MCG); North Melbourne (ES).
6-DAY BREAKS: Seven.

THEY SAY: "We're excited about being scheduled to play seven games on Friday nights.  In terms of exposure for your club, and for sponsors, who are very important stakeholders for the club, Friday nights are very important." - Richmond CEO Brendon Gale.

WE SAY: If the Tigers perform on-field they should be in store for a major boost to their coffers with seven Friday night games, 14 matches at the MCG and a host of blockbusters. Richmond should be eyeing the opening month to set up it season, especially with a potentially tricky run home in the last seven games. Not much to complain about for the Tigers.

The Club is clearly very happy with the draw. The official website is already promoting our fixture as a "year of blockbusters" ...

If we're a good side then this is a good draw.

Surely if we're to play n0rf in Hobart then it should have been someone else like West Coast we could have played at Etihad. Doesn't seem right playing n0rf in what is essentially two away games.

Thought we were certainties to get Gold Coast twice this year. Could understand it not happening in the past with it meaning we would have had to travel to QLD twice, and this year was only fair to be their home game at Metricon, but we were both middle of the table sides this year so surely it would have been our turn to play them down here. I guess we have to wait until they're top 4 so they can flog us at the 'G.

Benny Gale discussing the 2015 fixture:

VIDEO: http://www.richmondfc.com.au/video/2014-10-30/gale-on-fixture

* Very strong fixture for all clubs. AFL has removed obstacles that were preventing fans from attending. There's now more traditional time slots and blockbusters. The AFL should be commended.

* Support the Hobart game. In some ways we'll feel as though we're the home team given our history. It's Tassie's 150th year of footy. Bellerive is also Jack Riewoldt's (and his father's) home ground playing for Clarence.

* We want to play the best teams at the best times for not only our team's development but because it's also important for our fans.

* Terrific to be playing so many games at the 'G. It's our home ground and our fans have a strong connection to the ground. Etihad home game disappointing but we have to play a minimum number of games there. We're looking forward to it all.

* As far as exposure for the club & sponsors which are important stakeholders, Friday night is very very important. We're thrilled. Looking forward to be up and running and playing an attractive brand of footy on Friday nights.

The draw is irrelevant.
If we're good enough we'll win enough games to play finals.
If we're good enough those finals will be played at our home ground.

Richmond to play in spotlight, given seven Friday night games
Sam Edmund
Herald-Sun
October 31, 2014

RICHMOND is the new prime-time darling of the AFL, with the Tigers’ dramatic 2014 finals charge capturing the attention of broadcasters.

Damien Hardwick’s men will play a league-high seven Friday night games next year — three of them as the home side — in a dream commercial fixture.

Richmond will also feature in a further three Saturday night games, while it also reclaimed the Thursday night season-opener against Carlton. In all, the Tigers are scheduled to play 11 of its 22 matches after dark and it plays 15 games on free-to-air television.

“There’s no denying it’s a strong fixture,” Richmond chief executive Brendon Gale told the Herald Sun.

Richmond’s glut of Friday night appearances is a steep increase on last season, in which it was granted the slot only four times. In 2013 the Tigers played only two Friday night matches.

“There’s no direct benefit to your bottom line, but it’s brand exposure,” Gale said.

“You’re taking your team and your valued business partners to lots of eyeballs, which is what they want. It makes that association more valuable, ultimately, and more rewarding.

“In terms of exposure for your club, and for sponsors, who are very important stakeholders for the club, Friday nights are very important.”

Richmond and Melbourne to clash in Anzac Eve showdown
Michael Warner
Herald-Sun
October 31, 2014

RICHMOND and Melbourne will host an Anzac Day eve clash at the MCG the night before the traditional Collingwood-Essendon blockbuster.

The AFL approved a bid by the Tigers and Demons to stage their own tribute match to the Diggers on April 24.

The Friday night game, which has the backing of the RSL, will kick off Round 4.

Asked if the game would become an annual event, AFL scheduling boss Simon Lethlean said: “We’ve had that request for a number of years now and it has been hard to do because of Anzac Day falling on a Thursday and Friday.

“We will take it a year at a time as Anzac Day moves through those schedules. Hopefully the crowds will come this year.”

Collingwood president Eddie McGuire this year likened the plan to “having Christmas twice” and said footy’s Anzac Day calendar was “oversubscribed already”.

But the league has effectively given the Tigers and Demons one year to prove the concept can work.

Richmond chief executive Brendon Gale said: “We think there’s an opportunity to complement the story.

“Both clubs have a great history of great war time heritage and it just so happens the schedule works this year and it happens to be on a Friday night.

“The AFL have given us no guarantees into the future but we’ve got 2015 and we’ll see what we can do with it. We’re very proud to be playing Melbourne in the lead-up to such an auspicious occasion.”
