this is all good and stuff, but why is it that these big milestones always seem to give one of the last to join up a great prize?

How about the club give a jumper for 20 years of consecutive membership to long termers and people who have actually put some decent coin into the place?

If it boosts membership and the Club's coffers then so be it. Every dollar counts to make us better. What's best for the Club comes first. Hopefully we've got a few more on board thanks to the cubs' form over the past month.

Richmond has reached its 2010 membership target of 42,000.

At the AFL’s June 30 membership deadline, the Tigers had a total of 42,007 members (ticketed and non-ticketed) for the year.

“Late yesterday, we achieved an important 2010 strategic milestone in signing up our 42,000th member,” said Richmond’s CEO Brendon Gale.

“This is a significant achievement, which is a reflection of the loyalty and commitment of our members.

“On behalf of the Club, I would like to acknowledge the magnificent support of all those who have committed to the Tiger cause, as members, in 2010.

“Members are the lifeblood of Tigerland, and we are delighted that so many have put their trust in the direction we are taking as a Club.

“We are confident we have the right people, in the right places at the Club, to ensure that, in time, we adequately repay our members’ faith.

“While we are under no illusions about the challenges ahead of us, this is an exciting journey that we’re on.  Ultimately, however, we can only achieve sustained success with the strong backing of our members.”

Just 4k down is a good effort considering where we are, the late membership release and we didn't have the hype and false dawn of last year. The Club was able to minimise the damage from 2009. I don't think we'll get a huge jump in membership until we start pushing for finals in a couple of years but hopefully next year we can push back up to 46k+ and some of those people who took up the 3-game membership late rejoin as 11-gamers which still boosts the Club's finances. If we were to reach 50k next year that would be a bonus.

That will all depend on the next 8 weeks MT. Our numbers will definentely increase due to the positivity on the foundations being laid but how high they go depend on our finish this year.  One cannot question the spirit of a Richmond support that is the only guarantee I can give right now.
