Could we see Dusty in the media regularly? (SEN)

COULD WE SEE DUSTY IN THE MEDIA REGULARLY?

Nic Negrepontis
SEN
22 September 2023

The new AFL Collective Bargaining Agreement was announced on Thursday, with one of the more interesting notes surrounding the media availability of players.

All players who were named for the previous week’s game will be available to the media in the week following the match.

Does this mean we could see much more access to the league’s top players during the week across the season? Could Dustin Martin be asked to do regular media appearances?

AFL Players Association CEO Paul Marsh says clubs, who can be protective of player media availabilities, will need to get their heads around the tweak.

“There will be circumstances where for whatever reason it won’t be appropriate for a player to do media in a week,” Marsh told SEN Breakfast.

“The commitment here is that it’s not that hard. It’s a place we’ve been at for a little while and the clubs are going to need to buy in to this.

“It’s about promotion of the game and it’s important. Our model is that the players get paid based on a share of the game’s revenue and so we’re all incentivized to keep pushing and growing it and that’s important.”

Benny Gale mentioned in the presser that he believes there's still more growth in Dusty as far as leadership.

"What the hell is going on here?"

What actually happened when Dimma caught up with Dusty on the Gold Coast?

"He's been short changed on the Best and Fairest but when you've got more Norm Smith's than Best and Fairest's it's not a bad result.

Tigers officials weren't surprised to see Dusty churning out lap after lap at Punt Road this week. Now off for some time overseas but has had some medical tests recently which show he's in flawless nick. At 32 he's keen to play very deep into his 30s. In the form to do it

Q. Is there any truth to the rumor that Dusty is close to extending his contract at Tigerland?

A (David Zita): Have not heard that re Dusty. I think he will wait until close of next season when he's an unrestricted free agent and weigh up a move to the Suns and go from there

Dusty plays next year regardless.

Gives us a year to way up where we are at under Yze, it may be a sign him up for maybe a bit cheaper with post footy roles guaranteed and get a big fish via FA for a tilt. Or we go all in on rebuild and let Dusty go to GC or somewhere on good dollars which will get us 1st round compo. If we finished bottom 6 we'd get a very good pick for compo, as we rightfully should.

Personally hope it ends up being that we are rejuventaed under Yze, Lynch and Gibcus fit as fiddles, we nail a few mature age rookies to add to best 22 and have another tilt!
Go Tigers!

Dustin Martin (the greatest of all time 🐐) training again at Punt Road. Remarkable commitment.

Maybe he’ll have an even better year next year; might that be enough for him to make the All Australian team? I think not.
