COULD WE SEE DUSTY IN THE MEDIA REGULARLY?Nic Negrepontis

22 September 2023The new AFL Collective Bargaining Agreement was announced on Thursday, with one of the more interesting notes surrounding the media availability of players.
All players who were named for the previous week’s game will be available to the media in the week following the match.
Does this mean we could see much more access to the league’s top players during the week across the season? Could Dustin Martin be asked to do regular media appearances?
AFL Players Association CEO Paul Marsh says clubs, who can be protective of player media availabilities, will need to get their heads around the tweak.
“There will be circumstances where for whatever reason it won’t be appropriate for a player to do media in a week,” Marsh told SEN Breakfast.
“The commitment here is that it’s not that hard. It’s a place we’ve been at for a little while and the clubs are going to need to buy in to this.
“It’s about promotion of the game and it’s important. Our model is that the players get paid based on a share of the game’s revenue and so we’re all incentivized to keep pushing and growing it and that’s important.”
