Glenn McFarlane lists the men who could have a big say in September after returning from injury Glenn McFarlane

August 08, 2013 12:44PMDEAR AFL medical staff,
The men listed here - Dale Thomas, Adam Goodes, Grant Birchall, Luke McPharlin, Paul Chapman, Courtenay Dempsey and Dylan Grimes - could play a massive role in their teams' push for the flag, so long as they get the chance.
It's that annual August balancing act where players who have been battling injury - some of them serious - dare to dream of making a comeback and their coaches match risk with potential reward.
And this is where, you, the medical staff, play such an important part as the senior coach prepares to make the hard call on whether to play them or not.
DYLAN GRIMES (RICHMOND)Surely it is just a question of when Damien Hardwick decides to pull the trigger on Grimes' return to the senior line-up.
Given what has happened in the past, there is no doubt it won't be a hasty decision on the defender who has played only 22 games in four seasons.
Grimes has played one and a half games in the VFL on his return from a foot injury suffered against Geelong in Round 6.
Suspect the Tigers will err on the side of caution. Maybe a return against GWS in the penultimate round?
THE CHANCE: If his body holds up, Grimes will play finals as the Tigers are a better side with him in it.
