BLAIR WHAT WAS THE THINKING BEHIND THE TRADING WITH GWS
We were aware that Port Adelaide were keen on Steven Morris and wanted to bid their 2nd round selection in the national draft as apart of the Father/Son bidding process. We would have been forced to match that offer with our 2nd round selection, pick 37 which we had committed to Adelaide as part of the Maric deal. After many meetings with GWS we were able to come to a deal of swapping pick 15 for pick 14 and get Steven in while keeping our second round selection.

Do we plan on activating the 2nd round compo for next years 'super' draft? or do we plan on holding it?
We have to decide in March of next year whether we want to activate the compensation pick. At this stage it looks like a bumper draft and it would be most likely that we would activate it giving us 3 picks inside the first 2 rounds of a strong draft. Comment From Mark1
How deep in the draft will the tigers be going ?pick 79 seems pretty late.
We are still yet to determine how many picks we will have, as final list lodgement is not due until Mid-November. Comment From Pat
Are we allowed to use the Krakoeur compo pick in this draft?
No, we are not. Only for future until 2015. Comment From Gaz
There's been some talk amongst fans about Fev joining the team. Quite frankly, this makes me pretty nervous that you guys would even consider it. What are your thoughts on this and what is the possibility of it actually happening?
We have not considered Brendan as a part of our plans. We have not even contemplated it. Comment From David
so much for being very active in the trade period Blair. We got Maric, a father son and a bunch high draft picks. dissapoiting tigers
We explored every opportunity with each club and made it a priority to improve our draft position in what we feel is a weak draft. You also need to take in to account that all clubs were extremely protective of their players (contract) given Western Sydney's uncontracted signing window. Given most clubs have made minimal changes to their list, and with free agency approaching we saw it as beneficial to retain our low picks and go in to next year in a strong position for free agency. BLAIR WHAT WAS THE THINKING BEHIND TRADING WITH THE SUNS FOR THAT PICK 26?
We held the END of first round selection linked to Adelaide (Nathan Bock). Gold Coast only planned to have 1 pick in the National Draft and improve their draft position by trading out their later picks to be left with 24 and 26 by 1.30pm today. They did not intend to use 26 and came to us with the offer of changing compensation picks, and giving us 26. We feel this puts us in a strong position for the National Draft having two first round picks, while still having 3 picks in the first 2 rounds of the 2012 National draft. Comment From Dean
What is the situation now with Nason/Connors and McGuane/Thursfield? Did Richmond make a play for Gold Coast's Tom Nicholls?
We have been in consultation with all players that were up for trade and their management group. That will be sorted out in due course. Comment From Steve
was mitch clark ever an option?
We spoke with Mitch's management earlier on in the year and we felt his asking price was high, with Free Agency approaching we wanted to ensure we were in a strong position for this period whilst keeping a hold of our picks for this year. Comment From Francis
Would have liked more picks in this draft Blair- are you confident your boys will do the job?
Is this you Francis?
I'm very confident in our team, and he should be happy now he has 2 first round picks. No pressure. Comment From Flawed
There was a lot of talk about Foley leaving and going to GWS. Was there any substance to this and nothing eventuated or was it on the tables
There was no substance to this at all, and was never on the table. Axel is highly regarded and contracted and a player of the future at Richmond. Comment From Max
Is this year's draft poor, shallow or just even after 20-odd?
We spent a lot of time evaluating the draft, and feel it is weak after the first 30 selections. Which is why we were happy to trade pick 26 in from the Gold Coast today, while retaining our 3 selections in the first 2 rounds of the 2012 draft. Given the concessions afforded to GWS, the draft pool has been cut back significantly but I'm sure Francis will find some gems. Comment From Jimmy
WHY NO BIG EFFORT FOR HAMISH McINTOSH. SEEMS STUPID FOR US TO TARGET MARIC SO FIERCELY AND YET NOT EVEN TRY FOR McINTOSH?
A players contract status significantly impacts upon your ability to come to a suitable trade with clubs. Given Hamish was contracted and a required at North Melbourne, it makes it very difficult to come up with a suitable trade. Particularly when we were intent on retaining our first selection in the National Draft. Comment From aaron
were does luke mcgaune fit in now ... after being told hes not wanted.. if they can get a trade?
Luke is contracted for 2012 and we have been in constant contact with his management group throughout the entire trade period, unfortunately we werent able to facilitate a trade for Luke and he is more than happy to be a Tiger in 2012.Comment From Elliot
If we held onto our compensation pick for next year it would have been pick 19, is that correct? Why would we not wait a year and use it in a draft with more talent instead of getting a lower selection in a weaker draft? I don't understand it...
It is important to understand that the end of first round compensation selection comes after first round priority selections both at the beginning and the end of first round, also behind first round and mid-first round compensation selections. Given 2012 is forecast as a strong draft, we feel this selection will be around the mid to late 20's range. The second round compensation selection we acquired from Gold Coast today is aligned to where Port Adelaide finish on the ladder, and still gives us an opportunity to pick 3 players in the first 2 rounds of the 2012 National Draft. In doing so, we were able to acquire a first round selection pick 26 in this draft, which we see as a good result for us. We can't confirm where Port Adelaide are going to finish, but still happy to walk away with 3 picks in the first 2 rounds of 2012, and 2 picks in the first round of the 2011 draft. http://www.richmondfc.com.au/blair%20hartley%20web%20chat/tabid/16923/default.aspx
