While a number of people are targeting Dimma as coach and FJ as head recruiter, remember that Blair is the one that was/is meant to be overseeing the management of our list and the analysis/rating of every player in the AFL, state leagues and U18 levels. Only Dan Richardson would be above him within the footy dept.

Exactly, been saying it for over 12 months now

Instead of recruiting crap that will only get the club to mid table and strand us in the middle of nowhere can you actually go and get some decent quality footballers PLEASE!

And by the way Moneyball is crap and doesnt work in the AFL

Thanks
Ramps

Yet we have gone into meltdown after being embarressed by a side choc full of moneyball type recruits.

If you think money ball is crap, then you'd want to hope we never get Roos as coach.......

Garlett ...not really a really list clogger or injury prone .....maybe Newton & Pederson....who else?  These blokes really comparable to our "moneyball" picks ?  Only Garlett - a  proven performer, albeit a flaky one-  played on Friday night.

define a "moneyball" pick?

I think this, though is the important part you said
Quote
comparable to our "moneyball" picks

because if you dont take the right blokes, then no strategy will work, Richmond has shown since the introduction of the draft.

Again I ask the question, why did the so called moneyball stategy work sucessfully for Roos at Sydney if the strategy is flawed?

As its never been answered, I dont expect that to change, but it really is simple, because it comes down to implementation of it, the same as anything else.

It would be like using 10-15 years of our failed early draft picks to argue that using your early draft picks is flawed.

Fringe players, FA's, DFA's, mature types & state leaguers that cost you very little, either financially and/or in terms of players/picks, that you get to fill a role. You said we lost to a side that was "choc full of them".

I meant comparable to ours not just in  terms of quality but how many they have and how much they rely on them/senior games they play and injury history. (f.e. can't really see any Chris Knights injury prone type that's been brought onto Melbourne's list.)

As for Sydney under Roos - Do you think they would have been as successful had they not also been benefitting from generous concessions from the AFL? Who played in their two GF's that you consider to be genuine moneyball picks?

Hardwick
Hartley
Jackson
Richardson

All need to go, and the new coach will bring in his own assistants and fitness staff.

Really, they would have been laughing when we traded for Hampson -a Blair Special

He may have got it right initially with Grigg but they fact that Blair in the past recommended a 3 year contract extension was not one of his greatest moments

He recommendation in 2013 that we target mature aged players in the draft over kids was a stellar one as well.

Yes he's had some hits but over the last few years more misses

Maybe in the circle of fools you move in but nowhere else.

Even putting aside the stupidity of the Hampson deal, Hartley wanted to take Trengove when a first year physio student knows it was ridiculous.

Jackson only catches the fish that jump in the boat, he can't even tie a hook on a line when he has to try and catch one.

Richardson is a nothing operator, Rance not in the top 10 paid players and allowed to walk as an unrestricted free agent. Hardwick's contract extended at a ridiculous stage twice.

We have the worse coach in the AFL end of story. Top bloke but tactically clueless. It's been obvious for years already. When does it end?

Undoubtedly hasn't occurred to you but did you ever stop and think the issue isn't just Rance's contract, it's that our top 10 is full of blokes being paid massive overs which wastes our salary cap.

The salary cap we will need when Dan Richardson lands the big fish he has talked about every year for the past 3 and hasn't been able to get done.
