The Tigers' troubles have prompted bookmakers to ramp up the odds of them beating the Demons on Sunday, and open markets on whether they will have the first winless AFL/VFL season of any team since Fitzroy in 1964.

Sadly for the Tigers it's as $1.20 favourites with TAB Sportsbet to collect the poisoned chalice, otherwise known as the competition's wooden spoon.

The agency has paid out more than $100,000 to punters who backed the Tigers to finish last, reasoning that it is already a foregone conclusion.
