Lead story tonight on 7 news. Leigh Mulligan is outside the Epworth Hospital.

I wish the burly man would come back and interrupt some of these media broadcasts.

this is a shame  hope hes alright.

we have  just 4 players who will be regulars with 100 games or more. cuz is one.  his leadership is needed more than ever.

sheesh no cuz no foley. what i would really like to see for good chunks of the yr all of  deledio cuz foley  martin collins cotchin one of tuck or thomson  with rotations from tambling  newman  morton and simmonds stays healthy as well.
if this happens we may be competetive in  enough games to stop the  ferals jumping of or slitting their wrists.

Battery of tests for sick Ben Cousins (Herald-Sun)

Battery of tests for sick Ben Cousins

RICHMOND concedes Ben Cousins is almost certain to miss the Round 1 clash against Carlton after severe stomach pain forced him back to hospital.

Richmond said yesterday Cousins was "touch and go" for Thursday week's clash against Carlton at the MCG and was in hospital for tests.

Cousins has been laid low for five days with the mystery ailment, which flared again after he came off painkillers at the weekend.

Richmond was hopeful Cousins would return to full training this week, but the latest setback means his hopes of playing Round 1 are slim.

The 31-year-old has missed the past twopractice games as well as critical training sessions.

The Tigers have fresh memories of Cousins breaking down in Round 1 last year, an injury that cost him six weeks.

Specialists have ruled out appendicitis, severe ulcers and pancreatitis, but tests showing inflammation in the stomach have yet to reveal an exact diagnosis.

Blood tests have failed to uncover a problem, with a colonoscopy likely after a gastroscopy (where a camera is inserted into his stomach) showed no clear problem.

Cousins was forced to stay in hospital again overnight to fast before tests today.

The club is confident Cousins, who has otherwise enjoyed a flawless pre-season, did nothing wrong to bring on the condition.

I would not be surprised if the colonoscopy reveals an attack of Diverticular Disease - I am having one right now.

Is there any link to the sick feeling in the stomach to the last 2 practice games we've played?  :rollin

Maybe sitting through a review of the games made Cousins a little queasy.

Cousins out of hospital after more tests (Herald-Sun)
« Reply #50 on: March 16, 2010, 12:25:12 PM »
SEN says Cuz is out of hospital. No news on the test results. Club hopes he is back in training in a couple of days.

Edit: On the Herald-Sun site

RICHMOND expects star midfielder Ben Cousins to return to training later this week after he left hospital this morning.

The Richmond star spent the night at the Epworth Hospital and had more tests this morning in a bid to find the cause of his severe stomach pains. The results will not be known for several days.

Healy spoke to Cuz today...

* Cuz still hopes to play in round 1

* What's wrong is still unknown.

* He's had all these blood tests.

* Doesn't believe his past has anything to do with it.

AFL admits to 'worry' about Cousins
abc.net.au
Updated March 16, 2010

AFL chief executive Andrew Demetriou says he is concerned about the health of Ben Cousins after the Richmond midfielder was re-admitted to hospital because of stomach pains.

The 31-year-old Cousins first entered Epworth Hospital last Thursday for observation and to undergo medical tests related to the condition and despite being released the following day, he returned again on Monday as he was suffering from similar symptoms.

He was discharged this morning amid media reports he has been binge drinking during the past 12 months and had been warned against this by the Tigers, however the club released a statement outlining they have not spoken to the 2005 Brownlow medallist about such a matter.

Demetriou says he is concerned about Cousins' welfare, as he would be for any player who has been hospitalised.

"Anytime a player suffers an injury and ends up in hospital of course we worry about them," he said.

"But hopefully Ben's getting the best treatment and medication, so hopefully he'll be on the mend very quickly and back playing football."

Cousins remains in doubt for the Tigers' season opener against Carlton at the MCG on Thursday week.

He is entering his second year with the club, having previously served a 12-month ban from the AFL for bringing the game into disrepute as a result of his admission to substance abuse.

Are you kiddding me or what, the AFL is concerned, do us all a favour Deme and go have some more concern for the Blue bad boys and Fevola.

Gee this Cousins scene is becoming very boring and repedative come round one isn't it. I think he will still play and thats good.

until they find out whats wrong with him no can know if he'll play or not.

food intake will be down and it sounds like he is in pain often. No physical activity.
You dont need too many more days spent in hospital before rnd 1 is out of the question.

Richmond's Ben Cousins likely to play Round 1

    * From: Herald Sun

RICHMOND star Ben Cousins is likely to play in the opening round of the season despite twice being admitted to hospital in the past week.

Cousins trained with Richmond this morning for the first time since spending Monday night in Epworth Hospital with severe stomach pains.

Tigers captain Chris Newman said this afternoon the onballer's form on the track indicated he would be able to line up against Carlton next Thursday night.

"The way he was going, he was pretty vibrant this morning. I would expect him to play, I would be pretty surprised if he didn't," Newman said.

Newman said while the cause of Cousins' stomach pains had not been diagnosed, it was not the result of binge drinking.

"It seemed like just a bit of a tummy ache and the boys have been ribbing him ever since. I don't know if there is a diagnosis at the moment," Newman said.

"I am not really sure on the official diagnosis of Ben's condition but he was in a bad way for a week or so with the stomach pains re-occurring but I am not too sure what the diagnosis was. He was up and about this morning."
